Genshin Impact won't run on my computer- Keeps showing "Bad Module Info has stopped working." Any idea what I can do??

Hello! I've been in this problem for a while now.

Genshin Impact is a game I've used to be able to play, albeit at low quality and frames, but I could still play. I deleted it for storage back around ~2022 and I've recently redownloaded it in order to be able to play a new patch that's interested me, but it won't work now. It isn't a Microsoft Store game, it's from a company called Hoyoverse - again, it used to be just fine.

I've checked every setting. My driver's are up to date, I have enough storage to play; however, every time I try to launch it, it gets to the first logo loading screen then freezes and shows me "bad_module_info has stopped working."

The compatibility checker can't pick up anything. I've tried various solutions from the internet such as disabling anti-virus, disabling unneeded proxies, opening storage, running the repair mode on the launcher itself, and yet it still shows me this. I haven't been able to do anything about it for around 3 days.

I have a Windows 10 and all the updated drivers as of 4/25/2025. Nothing I've found so far seems to be working. I'm beginning to think it might be something not many have had problems with before.

    Hi ss.Parker.

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I'm sorry to hear about the issue you're facing with Genshin Impact on your Windows 10 computer. The "Bad Module Info has stopped working" error is a common issue in gaming. Here are some steps you can try to resolve it:

    > Disable Fullscreen Optimizations

Navigate to the Genshin Impact executable (GenshinImpact.exe).

    Right-click Properties > Compatibility.

    Check "Disable fullscreen optimizations."

Click Apply and restart your PC.

    > Run the Game as Administrator

Right-click the Genshin Impact launcher or .exe file.

    Select Run as Administrator.

    > Adjust Compatibility Settings

    Right-click GenshinImpact.exe > Properties > Compatibility.

Select Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 8.

    Click Apply and test.

    > Disable GPU Overlay & Background Apps

If you have NVIDIA GeForce Experience or AMD Radeon Software, disable overlays.

Exit Discord, Steam, or MSI Afterburner, as they can interfere with rendering.

    > Update DirectX & Visual C++ Redistributables

Download and install the latest DirectX from Microsoft.

    Update Visual C++ Redistributables here.

    > Perform a Clean Boot

Press Win + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter.

Go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.

Next, go to the Startup tab in Task Manager and disable all non-essential apps.

Restart and try launching the game.

    > Check for Memory Conflicts

Run Windows Memory Diagnostic (Win + R > type mdsched.exe).

Let it scan for errors—faulty RAM can cause crashes.

    > Reinstall Genshin Impact in a Different Location

    Completely uninstall the game.

Reinstall it on a different drive (if available).

Try running it from a new directory.

Perform Repair in-place upgrade: This will reinstall your Operating System and will keep your files and apps. This will take some time depending on the computer performance and internet speed. You can follow the steps from this link: How to do a Windows 10 Repair Upgrade - Microsoft Community

Let me know what happens after trying these steps!

    Best Regards,

Genshin Impact has had a couple of updates since 2022 - v4.4 and v5. Both updated graphics effects which

increased the system requirements. While it is not a huge increase, if your system was struggling to run the game

in 2022, it may no longer meet the games current minimum requirements.

    • Windows has no specific error messages to cover this, or other graphics improvements that raise the system requirements

in games, so it is possible this error is just something Windows popped out for lack of a proper error message.

A common example of this failing is DirectX errors that are created when games updates to DirectX 12 and no longer use DX10\11.

When this happens people using graphics processors that cannot use DX12 effects get mislead into thinking they have to 'update' DX.

The same happens with some new games, most notably Marvel Rivals.
