Working internet connection not recognised by Windows 11

OS: Windows 11

Build: 26100.1742

Wi-Fi Adapter: NETGEAR A7000-100PES Nighthawk AC1900

I just upgraded to Windows 11, and while I can connect to the internet via a browser (Chrome, Brave and Edge all connect) (and with an improved download speed of 500Mbps+) Windows doesn't recognise the connection.

To summarise: browsers connect to the internet, Windows thinks it can't (see grabs below).

Can this be fixed?

Thanks for checking.

Manually set DNS

Sometimes DNS resolution works for browsers but not Windows components.

  1. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Advanced network settings
  2. Click your network > View additional properties
  3. Under DNS settings > Edit
  4. Choose Manual

Set IPv4: ON

Preferred DNS: 8.8.8.8

Alternate DNS: 8.8.4.4 (Google DNS)

  1. Save, then restart

Check Proxy or VPN Settings

  1. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Proxy
  2. Make sure “Use a proxy server” is off
  3. If you're using a VPN (even if not connected), try uninstalling it to test

After trying above steps, please reach out to me if you have any doubts or issues

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately those steps haven't helped.

    Hello ,

I’m here to help you in resolving your issue

Yes, this issue can be fixed, and it's actually a common bug in Windows 11, especially after upgrades.

Press Win +S > search for Command Prompt > Right click on it > click on Run as administrator > Run below commands

    netsh int ip reset

    netsh winsock reset

    ipconfig /flushdns

    ipconfig /release

    ipconfig /renew

After trying above steps, please reach out to me if you have any doubts or issues

    Check win update settings

Win11 by default only installs critical security updates, unless you made the mistake of selecting “Get latest updates” which includes drivers.

See your laptop/PC makers support to update both bios and ALL drivers.

There should be a shortcut to that makers update utility on your system.

Then set Bios to defaults & Pwr to balanced. At the end of the day shutdown, do not leave in sleep.

Do NOT update from any other source inc Device Manager

You only need to set the Advanced options for notify & Time, then leave win update to do its own thing.

If a self-build drivers/bios update via the mobo makers support site + any vid card site
