Xbox App on PC – Download Speed Drops to 0 B/S Randomly (Fast Internet, Tried Fixes)

Hi,

I’m experiencing a frustrating issue with the Xbox app on Windows. When downloading games, the speed fluctuates constantly — it stays around 978–985 KB/s, then suddenly drops to 0 B/s, pauses, then resumes. Occasionally, it spikes up to 170 Mbps, but only for a short time (like 10–20 minutes) before dropping again.

Here’s what I’ve already tried :

  • Turned off real-time protection and everything under it in Windows Security
  • Disabled everything in Delivery Optimization

My internet connection is stable and fast (200–250 Mbps), and all other apps download just fine, including Steam and browsers.

Is this a known issue with the Xbox app? Is there anything else I can do to fix or stabilize the download speed?

Thanks!

    Hi حمد العازمي

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I understand the frustration you're facing with the Xbox app download speed fluctuations. This issue could be related to various factors, including server load or network congestion. Here are a few additional steps you can try to stabilize the download speed:

    Possible Fixes

    • Restart the Xbox App & Microsoft Store: Close both apps completely, then restart them before retrying the download.
    • Reinstall the Xbox App: Some users have found that uninstalling and reinstalling the Xbox app improves download stability.
    • Use a Wired Connection: If possible, try using an Ethernet cable instead of Wi-Fi to rule out network inconsistencies.
    • Pause & Resume the Download: Some users have reported that manually pausing and resuming the download can stabilize speeds.
    • Try Downloading via Microsoft Store: Start the download in the Xbox app, then pause it. Open the Microsoft Store, find the game, and resume the download from there.
    • Check Background Network Usage: Ensure no other apps or devices are consuming bandwidth while downloading.
    • Reset Network Settings: Open Command Prompt (Admin) and run: netsh winsock reset netsh int ip reset ipconfig /flushdns Then restart your PC.
    • Perform Repair in-place upgrade: This will reinstall your Operating System and will keep your files and apps. This will take some time depending on the computer performance and internet speed.
