Config Windows Update to use whole processing power (finish faster)

Alright, let me explain my issue

I used to have a slow machine and updates, even in the background were noticeable, making the machine struggle to do simple tasks while they were installing.

This made me start to pause the automatic updates and I would run them whenever I had the free time, waiting for them to finish while not using the computer.

That said, I got a far faster PC now, but still do the same thing, that is, manually running Windows Update and waiting for it to finish before doing something else.

Thing is, Windows Update is designed to use as little resources as possible, as to not disturb the user while it runs.

So what do I want?

I want to tell Windows to use 100% of the PC power to finish the installation as fast as possible, since I'm sitting there watching, and that should take barely a couple minutes at full speed.

Thanks in advance

Hi Anis. Thanks for the inputs

However, I'm not complaining about the time the update takes per se; I'm stating it is barely using 5% of resources to install while it could use 100% and finish way faster.

That is my intent with the topic: I want Windows Update to run as fast as possible, since I'm manually checking for updates and waiting for them to finish on purpose.

I have the same exact problem. I don't have a reliable internet connection, so when I do and want to update, I want it done as fast as possible.

I understood that. However, currently there is no such mechanism to execute that. Windows Update service has it's own Algorithm. It is designed to consume less resources without impacting your workflow.

Performing above steps may accelerate the process a bit.

Hello, my name is Anis. I'll be glad to help you today.

Windows update may consume some system resources during installation. Any inconvenience is regretted.

However, you can manage Windows updates by performing the following steps.

    1. Disable Delivery Optimization.

Go to Settings > Windows Updates > Advanced Options > Delivery Optimization

    Turn it off.

    1. Set an Active Hour for Windows Update

Go to Settings > Windows Updates > Advanced Options > Active Hours.

Adjust an active hour when Windows will start installing updates. The most suitable active hour is when you will not be working on the PC.

    1. Windows update does not depend entirely on the system resources. It also depends on how much time is required to download the updates.

If your PC is taking unexceptional amount of time to install the updates, please run system file checker.

Run the System File Checker (SFC) and DISM:

    Run SFC:

Press Win + X and select Command Prompt (Admin).

Type sfc /scannow and press Enter. This process may take some time to complete.

    Run DISM:

After SFC completes, type the following command and press Enter:

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    Allow the process to complete.

    Restart Your Computer.
