Intel ARC & Iris Graphics Driver Updates Problem

I am having a problem with the Intel ARC & Iris Graphics Driver and need to know who to contact at Intel or Microsoft to correct this problem. I have already sent this email through Intel Community Forum for an answer as well.

I am notified by Intel that there is a new updated driver (I.e. Display 32.0.101.6737) to be updated to my computer. After I download this new Intel driver, Microsoft Update keeps sending me driver Display 32.0.202.6464 (an older version) to download. I cannot control this download as Microsoft sends this through the Updater system and the system will not allow me to block it or uninstall it. Once this older driver is downloaded again it overrides (replaces) the new driver (from 6737 to 6464), that I just downloaded. This is a never ending cycle again and again. I am tired of it. I thought Microsoft should know about it and correct the situation by turning off the old driver downloads. An older driver should never replace a new driver. There are other old drivers that replate to this as well; they are Extension - 31.0.101.5382, Extension - 31.0.101.5234 and Extension - 31.0.101.5125. (Continued)

Let me know how Microsoft plans to handle this issue. It would be nice if Microsoft can update the Updater to allow to ignore or stop an update. To have to go through this process is time-consuming and unnecessary. Thanks, Chuck

    Hi ,

I am Ivan, I will help you with this.

This is not a problem, what happens, I will try to explain that you have an MSI laptop. This laptop has Intel drivers such as chipset and graphics, but the MSI manufacturer made some modifications to these drivers for features that come with the laptop. What happens is that Windows Update checks the drivers for the condition of the MSI device and searches for drivers that have been approved by MSI or modified. Therefore, the drivers that are installed may be the drivers that MSI included in the Windows Update package for this specific model.

Sometimes it may happen that they have not posted the drivers on the website, but they are included in the driver package for this laptop in Windows Update and that is how it works on Sufarce devices.

I believe that the problem you are having can be solved by disabling Windows Update from receiving driver updates and updating the drivers yourself on the MSI website or getting the drivers separately, but there may be new versions, for example on the Intel website. If it is audio, it is usually Realtek and the GPU is usually dedicated, I recommend updating manually, especially AMD and Nvidia.

Windows key+X and select Windows Powershell (Admin)

Copy/paste the following command and press Enter:

    reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate" /f /v ExcludeWUDriversInQualityUpdate /t REG_DWORD /d 1

    Restart on computer

So just to be clear, the above command to be entered into Powershell will be to turn off all updates for drivers only and these drivers will not be sent to me through Microsoft Update? I do have a driver updater software program that I use to update my drivers. I do go to the Intel website to have their system do a check on my computer to see if I need a driver update or they send me a notification if there is a driver update. This will help to keep the operations separate. Thanks, Chuck
