windows 11 computer running slow for no reason all of a sudden, check the BIOS!!

Hi everyone, just wanted to report on something that happened to me these days and was driving me crazy.

My Hp laptop not even 1 year old became slow and laggish all of a sudden overnight. I tried everything trying to fix it thinking that there was something operating in the background taking all the memory. I blamed the Controls the DTS audio processing object and the Antimalware Service Executable process as they seems to take the most memory. Turns out you can't quit Antimalware Service Executable in any way, trust me I tried, and quitting Controls the DTS audio processing object made no difference.

I used Hp diagnosis app and everything resulted working, ONLY THE BIOS NEEDED TO BE UPDATED. THAT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE COMPUTER RUNNING SLOW. After updating the bios and rebooting everything went back at normal.

I'm so frustrated as I didn't get any notification there was the need to update the Bios, I had to run the option to check myslef.

Hope this helps somebody else

Hello Ricky, Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community Support.

I can understand your concern that how frustrating it can be. Here are some simple steps by following these steps I hope your issue may be resolved.

Steps to Fix a Suddenly Slow Windows 11 Computer: Sometimes, a slow system can be caused by underlying firmware (like the BIOS) rather than software or hardware issues. An outdated BIOS can create compatibility issues, impacting performance. Updating it ensures that your system runs smoothly with the latest optimizations

    1. Rule Out Background Processes: Open Task Manager (press Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check if any processes like “Antimalware Service Executable” or others are hogging memory or CPU. Please note that you usually cannot disable system-critical processes like Antimalware Service Executable, so if closing others doesn’t work, move to the next steps.
    2. Run Hardware Diagnostics: Run a full system check to ensure the hardware, such as memory and CPU, is functioning properly.
    3. Check If Your BIOS Is Outdated: Please find for available BIOS updates for your specific laptop model. If an update is available, download it. Please follow the instructions to install the BIOS update. This typically involves running the update file and letting your computer restart to apply the changes. Please be patient BIOS updates can take a few minutes and must not be interrupted. Manufacturers often release BIOS updates to improve performance or fix bugs.
    4. Reboot Your PC: Once the BIOS update is complete, restart your laptop and check for performance improvements.
    5. Check for Windows Updates (For General Troubleshooting): To be safe, go to Settings → Windows Update and ensure your system is fully updated.

I hope these steps may help you to resolve your issue.
