How to Stop Microsoft from trying to sell me stuff on bootup

Hi, I bought this computer a year ago and use it every day. Upon booting up just now, I was asked to "finish setting up my pc" with no button to skip it. I could decline their products page by page, but I couldn't cancel the whole damned list of ads.

I set it up a year ago. It didn't want to set up the pc. It wanted to sell me Office 365, then Microsoft games, then some other crap Microsoft products. I already bought the operating system. You already have my money so please STOP with ads upon boot up.

If Microsoft sold refrigerators, they'd make us watch an ad (for their own crap) every time we made a sandwich or grabbed a drink.

My next OS is Apple and if you told 20-something me that 20 years ago, I'd have looked at you like you're crazy.

    Hi Matthew,

This is an issue that has been extremely frustrating for me. Here is the solution:

To disable the "Let's finish setting up your device" prompts on Windows, navigate to Settings > System > Notifications & actions, click "Additional settings," then uncheck the "Suggest ways I can finish setting up my device to get the most out of Windows" box.

Hope this helps. This setting should be disabled BY DEFAULT. It is a shame that companies like Microsoft have determined that repeated cash grabs like these which harm user experience are more important than the actual user experience and long term customer satisfaction.

    Best regards,

    Chris Dyson

    Dear Matthew Moors

Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community

Based on your description, I understand that you receive a [Complete PC Settings] prompt from Microsoft every time you start your computer, and that you can't find a way to close that page, so please point out if I'm misunderstanding you.

Typically these account setups and other information appear all at once. They don't usually pop up again after you've completed the setup for the first time.

Can you provide a picture of the interface you are receiving?

You can try right clicking under the taskbar and then clicking on Task Manager to bring up Task Manager, find the Startup Apps tab of Task Manager, and see if there are any auto-running apps that are trying to provide these adverts. You can also disable all the contents of these startup items. Then restart your computer to see if you still receive these adverts.

I wish you all the best
