Hello, Tushaar Sharath
Welcome to Microsoft Community.
Windows Defender, now known as Microsoft Defender, has significantly improved over the years and provides solid protection for most users. Microsoft Defender offers real-time protection against various types of malware, including viruses, ransomware, and spyware. It continuously monitors your system and can block threats before they cause harm. In independent tests, Microsoft Defender has shown to be quite effective at detecting and neutralizing malware. It performs well compared to other free antivirus solutions. The built-in firewall in Windows 11 adds an extra layer of security by monitoring incoming and outgoing network traffic.
Microsoft Defender also includes features like controlled folder access to protect against ransomware, and SmartScreen to block malicious websites and downloads.
However, there are some limitations:
- Microsoft Defender's phishing protection is not as strong as some third-party solutions.
- Third-party antivirus programs often come with additional features like VPNs, identity theft protection, and more advanced threat detection.
Given that you don't download anything suspicious and practice safe browsing habits, Microsoft Defender should be sufficient for your needs. However, if you want extra peace of mind, especially with important data like money, emails, and accounts, you might consider a third-party antivirus for additional features and protection.
