Parts of screen freezes when using chrome

I got a new PC about a year ago, and around the six-month mark, I started experiencing occasional freezing.

At first, it wasn’t too bad, so I ignored it, but over time, it has gotten progressively worse.

Now, almost the entire Chrome window freezes, making it really frustrating to use.

I’m pretty sure this is a driver issue, but I’m not sure exactly what is causing the problem.

This video isn’t mine, but it shows exactly what’s happening to me:

If anyone knows a fix or has any advice, I’d really appreciate the help. Thanks in advance!

    Dear Kevin_Zhang.ismyname!

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community!

If you are experiencing screen stuttering while using Chrome, here are some solutions, including updating the graphics card driver and adjusting some settings:

    Update graphics driver

    Download the latest driver:

Visit your graphics card manufacturer's official website (such as NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel).

Download the latest graphics card drivers suitable for your computer configuration.

    Install the driver:

Uninstall the old version of the graphics card driver.

    Install the latest downloaded drivers.

Restart the computer to complete the installation.

    Try adjusting mouse settings

Turn off mouse hover scrolling function:

Open Settings > Devices > Mouse.

Find the option "Scroll content when the mouse hovers over the inactive window" and turn it off.

    Check Chrome's hardware acceleration

Make sure hardware acceleration is turned off:

    Enter chrome://settings/system in Chrome.

Make sure the switch next to Hardware Acceleration (if available) is on.

If hardware acceleration is not available:

Try to re-enable hardware acceleration: Turn off Chrome, then type chrome --disable-gpu-blacklist in the taskbar search box, and press Enter to launch Chrome.

If this solves the problem, you may need to further investigate why hardware acceleration is disabled.

    Other possible solutions

    Reduce Chrome's memory usage:

    Close unnecessary tab pages.

Use the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) to check which extensions or tags take too much resources and take action accordingly.

    Reset Chrome settings:

    Open chrome://settings/reset and reset settings.

    Update Chrome:

Make sure your Chrome browser is the latest version.

    Run a virus scan:

Use antivirus software to check for malware to cause system stuttering.

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, further technical support may be required, including checking for system files to be corrupted or considering reinstalling the operating system.

I sincerely hope that the above troubleshooting steps and related information can help you. If you have any questions, please feel free to post in this thread. Although our responses are not real-time, I will be happy to work with you to resolve the problem if we have more information and further progress in troubleshooting.

Thank you for your understanding and support!

I wish you all the best.

    Hi ,

I am Ivan, I will help you with this.

First, you'll want to test without hardware acceleration to see if there's a problem with your video driver.

    Open Chrome.

Click the three dots in the top right corner to open the menu.

    Go to Settings.

On the left side, select System.

In the System section, toggle the switch for Use hardware acceleration when available to On or Off.

    Restart Chrome.
