A section of my monitors screen freezes

So,

Just when I'm casually using my laptop, google or discord, parts of the screen are freezing. I can still use everything fine. Everything functions perfectly. But it's like there's a chunk of screen stuck in place. Alt tabbing seems to remove this piece of frozen screen though.

I don't know if it's a software or hardware problem, any help will be much appreciated.

I’ve been experiencing this issue for about two years now. It first happened on Windows 10 out of nowhere. I had been using that machine for more than a year already. Since then, I upgraded to Windows 11 with a clean install, changed the motherboard, CPU, GPU, and RAM, and it still happens now and again. I think it might be an issue with the AMD driver or something. The issue seems to happen the most when switching between apps using alt tab or just clicking on them on the nav bar.

Games don’t seem to have this problem—there’s no part of the screen freezing. It’s every other app/software that experiences this issue. For example, Google Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Discord, VSCode, GIMP, AMD Adrenalin, Steam—the list goes on. However, games like Battlefield, COD, Minecraft, or others all run perfectly fine with no freezes or issues.

I have no idea what else to do about this.

Hi, after a lot of research and personal experience with this issue, I have found that everyone who has had this issue has traced it back to around January as i did, when a new windows update for windows 11 and 10 came out. for me 24H2, I have now rolled back to 23H2 and I never have this issue anymore, please let people know so Microsoft will work on a fix for their next update/s. If you do not believe this is the issue, I have a lot of posts about this that I can share, most notably this one:

Hello, I'm Quinn. I'm glad to help.

Since the issue resolves after alt-tabbing, it might be related to software, but it could also be hardware-related.

First, ensure your Windows 11 and relevant apps are up to date. Make sure your GPU drivers are up to date via Device Manager or the manufacturer's website (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel).

Next, try disabling hardware acceleration. For Google Chrome, go to Settings > Advanced > System, and toggle off "Use hardware acceleration when available." For Discord, go to Settings > Appearance > Advanced, and toggle off "Hardware Acceleration."

If the issue persists, connect your laptop to an external monitor. If the problem continues, it might be GPU or software-related. If it only happens on the laptop's display, it could indicate a hardware problem. Use built-in diagnostic tools provided by your laptop manufacturer to check for hardware issues.

That's true! I have the same problem. I also noticed that everyone affected seems to have an AMD CPU or GPU, which appears to be the cause of the issue. Some people mentioned that downgrading the AMD drivers fixes it. So, I'm not sure who's really at fault, Windows or the AMD drivers

    Thanks for the reply,

Both discord app and google chrome app has these screen freezes.

I play roblox too but they don't seem to happen there.
