Quick launch and intelligent windows???

Why in the world did Windows 11 get rid of quick launch bar and intelligent windows that always open in the same place and size? In what kind of upside down world would you do this? I cannot describe how much I hate this . For the people who used and understood how to use quick launch they would all tell you why would you ever get rid of this tool??? I why would you take away intelligent windows that always open in the same place and size? It is so much fun to have to resize and relocate my windows every single time I log on, what a joy. And if Microsoft enjoys it so much to make new functions why can't they still leave the option of keeping the existing functions that people love. Totally and completely freaking mindboggling.

    Udit,

Thank you for your reply however you are mistaken about the directions for quick launch. Yes that works in Windows 10 and all previous versions but does not work in Windows 11. For those who have used quick launch for years it is amazing to us that Windows keeps trying to take this feature away. It is far more intuitive than what is being offered in Windows 11. It allows you to lock your favorite apps in one area of the task bar and then you can open as many windows as you like and those programs always stay in the same location. Also, in Win 10 and previous it allow you to program your own shortcuts to add to the quick launch bar, so let's say you have one particular folder you use very frequently, you could actually program that in your task bar so it is very easy and always available.

As for the intelligent windows. Your suggestion to hit shift while closing the window sort of works, but mostly doesn't and it does not allow you to perfectly stack windows if you wish to have say 10 windows open but want them all in the same place on your screen. As for your suggestion to purchase an additional app to do this my response would be, it has been available in every other version of Windows to include those from 15 - 20 years ago, so why would Microsoft think all of the sudden hey let's get rid of this really useful tool for windows to remember their size and location each time they are closed...? Interesting that you call the program "Windows" and yet the "Windows" do not seem to be very intelligent....seems we are moving backwards as opposed to forwards when we "the customer" are paying for these so-call "upgrades".....just saying. At home I am still using an older computer with Windows 10 which still allows for quick launch bar and intelligent windows, I hate the fact that I feel I am being force into buying a new computer with "new" software that is not capable of doing what the computer I now have can do and I believe these features I have mentioned are important to the majority of users. I could be wrong, but those that know what I am talking about will surely understand. My work computer has Windows 11 and frankly I think it sucks.

    Respectfully, Jim

    for quicklaunch:

I don't see that as an option. Here are the options I have for:

    Show Search button
    Show Task 'Clew button
    Show Widgets button
    Show the desktop
    Task Manager
    Lock the taskbar

    Hi Jim,

Thank you so much for reaching out, I am Udit an independent advisor, and I am glad to assist you today with this issue.

Here are some steps you can follow to restore or replicate those features:

To bring back a Quick Launch-style toolbar

    1. Right-click on the taskbar and select "Toolbars" > "New toolbar."
    2. In the folder path field, enter the following: %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
    3. Click "Select Folder." You'll now see a Quick Launch-style toolbar on the taskbar.
    4. You can drag it to your preferred position, hide text and titles, and adjust icon size by right-clicking on it.

To make windows open in the same place and size:

Windows 11 doesn't always remember window positions natively like some older versions did, but you can try this workaround:

    1. Open the app you want.
    2. Resize and position it the way you prefer.
    3. Hold down the Shift key while clicking the X to close the window. This can help some apps remember their last state.
    4. Reopen the app and check if it retains the previous size and position.

If the issue persists across reboots,

    1. Download and install PowerToys from the Microsoft Store.
    2. Open PowerToys and enable the FancyZones module.
    3. Create custom window zones where you want applications to snap.
    4. When you drag windows, hold Shift to place them into those predefined zones.

This can simulate the behavior of intelligent window placement with even more flexibility.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

    Best regards,

    Udit
