My husband purchased a refurbished second hand laptop. There is a message in the corner of the screen says that Windows isn't activated.

When I click on Windows activation in settings in says Windows cant be activated because it "can't connect to your organisation's server" and when I click on Troubleshoot it says it found a "windows 11 Home single language digital licence for this device running windows 11 pro. To activate, you need to install windows 11 home single language".

How do I do this? I've seen online about creating a "bootable USB".... I have no idea what that means or how to do it. Help please!

I have no product keys and when I access the product key through the computer and try to put it in, it says it doesn't match...!!!

    Hello,

So the computer currently has an organization volume license, specifically called KMS license. This means, the original owner must have bought the computer that came with an activation of Home edition, then used their organization's KMS license to upgrade to pro.

You will not be able to continue with KMS license, becuase you are not the user from THAT organization. But, you can go back to using the original Home license the computer came with. And that requires a clean install. Good news is - the clean install should automatically pick up the home license and activate automatically.

    I will share the instruction:

Video tutorial is available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsinsider/...

The following steps should be done on a working Windows computer:

Download the Windows Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's official website. https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/win... click on the "download now" button under "Create Windows 11 Installation Media"

Run the tool and select "Create installation media for another PC."

Choose "USB flash drive" as the media to use for the installation and select "Next."

Connect a USB flash drive with at least 8 GB of free space to your computer.

Select the USB flash drive you want to use, and then select "Next."

The tool will then download the required files and create the installation media.

    =====================================================

Now these steps will  be done on your problematic computer:

Go to the computer's BIOS boot menu to have it boot from the USB drive.

Follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows 11, making sure to choose "Custom install" and select the option to delete all existing partitions.

Once the installation is complete, you'll have a clean installation of Windows 11 on your computer.
