Voice access limited in functionality with older Windows version, W11, 23H1?

Hi,

I'm using voice access due to a disability on a work laptop which is currently stuck with Windows 11 23 H1 due to company rules.

I'm wondering if this has an effect on voice access, will I be stuck with an older version of voice access?

So do I need to use the latest version of Windows in order to also have the latest version of voice access?

If this is the case, I could ask my company to make an exception for me.

In addition, do you need a copilot Plus rated PC to have the best experience with voice access?

In the article below it is even mentioned that you need a Snapdragon PC.

I guess this is outdated? And the normal copilot Plus laptop would be sufficient?

Or has the Limitation been removed and every modern PC is fine?

Thanks a lot!

Hi Michael,

Thanks for reaching out Microsoft Community Forum. I totally understand your concern about the accessibility of your voice features. Allow me to help.

Here what you need to know why your Voice Access is limited:

⊳ You are using Windows 11 version 23H1,

  • which has an older version of voice access

⊳ You’ll need to update to Windows 11 version 24H2 or newer,

  • to use the latest and improved version

⊳ You might need to ask IT for special approval for accessibility reasons,

  • since it is a company laptop

► About Copilot+ and Snapdragon PCs

• You don’t need a Copilot+ or Snapdragon PC just to run voice access

• Those devices are only needed for advanced AI features, not basic voice control

• Any modern Windows 11 PC should support voice access

I hope this helps and works for you.

Best Regards,

Kelvin || Independent Adviser

    Hi Michael,

Thanks for the follow up response. I really do appreaciate your patience. I am happy the previous response helped. Here's to explain you further about your follow up question.

    About the Copilot+ AI Features:

Unlike standard Windows 11 PCs, Copilot+ PCs include unique AI-powered features. Here are some cool features that makes them special:

► Recall – helps you look back at anything you've viewed or worked on like apps, sites, files, and more.

► AI Image Creator in Paint – you can turn words into art by simply typing what you want to see.

► Live Captions – automatically creates subtitles for anything you watch or listen even in different languages

► Game Boost – helps games run faster and look sharper.

► Smarter Voice Control – you can control your PC more easily using your voice.

    If these features sound useful

    • It’s great for work, accessibility, and AI tools

    • You can talk to your company about getting a Copilot+ PC

I hope this helps and works for you.

    Best Regards,

    Hi Kelvin,

Thanks a lot for the quick and great reply!

I would have one short follow up question:

Can you elaborate on the advanced AI features?

What are these features? is there any further info?

Depending on the features I may ask my company for a copilot plus ready laptop then.
