Hi, my PC running Windows 11 24H2 is not playing Windows sounds. It still can play the Windows startup sound and the sounds from other apps, like YouTube in Edge... but not play sounds like "Windows Background" in the volume section.

    Hi Quốc,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Community Forum. If your PC running Windows 11 24H2 plays sounds from apps (like YouTube or Windows startup) but not system sounds Windows Background notification sounds, its likely points to a system sound configuration issue.

You may start with these quick checks whichever works:

    Check the Sound Scheme

    • Go to Control Panel > Sound > Sounds tab
    • Make sure you're using “Windows Default”
    • Pick a sound like “Notification” and click Test. If you hear nothing, continue.

    Check Volume Mixer

    • Right-click the volume icon → Open Volume Mixer
    • Make sure System Sounds is not muted or turned down.

    Try a Different Output Device

    • In Settings > System > Sound, make sure the correct output device is selected.

    If That Doesn't Work:

    • Restart Windows Audio Services
    • Run services.msc
    • Restart Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder
    • Run the Audio Troubleshooter
    • Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters > Playing Audio

    Only if Still Not Working:

    • Try Resetting or Changing Sound Scheme
    • Run sfc /scannow (only if you suspect system corruption)

    Let me know,
