A "CDA" file is an audio file, you open it on a COMPACT DISC PLAYER. The reason I was trying to find out how to convert an MP3 file to a CDA file is because older COMPACT DISC PLAYERs won't play MP3 files.

2025-05-07T13:09:52+00:00 Where are you getting your definition from for cda file? What I gave you is from File Info.
Copilot answer.
A CDA file is a shortcut file used by Microsoft Windows to represent audio tracks on a CD. It doesn't contain actual audio data but serves as a reference to where each track starts and stops on the disc. When you insert an audio CD into your computer, Windows automatically generates these CDA files, allowing you to play the tracks using media players like Windows Media Player or VLC Media Player.
However, if you copy a CDA file from a CD to another location, it won't play because it lacks the actual audio data. To convert CDA files into playable formats like MP3 or WAV, you need to rip the CD using software like Windows Media Player or Format Factory.

2025-05-06T22:43:25+00:00 Thank you for your response! I found that out after I posted my question. I haven't burnt a CDA in so long, I forgot how I did it long ago. Most of the later CD Players will play either format as you know.
As far as my out dated Windows 7 Professional system goes; its an old 380 Dell Optiplex and is faster than one of my Windows 10 PC (which I believe needs to be updated to an SSD. I scan my win 7 weekly and any time I download anything.
I am looking to download another media player. Have any suggestions?

2025-05-06T20:35:23+00:00 CDA File - What is a .cda file and how do I open it?
A CDA file is a shortcut to a track on an audio CD. Some versions of Windows create CDA files when a user loads an audio CD via their CD drive. Users can double-click a CDA file to play the track to which the file points (provided the CD is in the user's CD drive).

2025-05-06T20:27:21+00:00 Hi!
Thank you for posting your query on community forum!
As I understand you are asking to convert mp3 files to cda format using Windows media on your Windows7 device.
Windows 7 is a legacy operating system, and Microsoft officially ended support for it on January 14, 2020. This means that it no longer receives security updates, bug fixes, or technical support, making it more vulnerable to security risks and compatibility issues, upgrading to a newer version of Windows, such as Windows 10 or Windows 11, is highly recommended for better performance, security, and software compatibility.
However, I am sharing the steps to convert mp3 files into cda format:
- Insert a Blank CD: Place a CD-R into your computer’s CD/DVD drive.
- Open Windows Media Player: Launch Windows Media Player from the Start menu.
- Go to the Burn Tab: Click on the Burn tab at the top.
- Select "Audio CD" Format: Click the drop-down menu next to the Burn button and choose "Audio CD" (this ensures the CD will be playable in standard CD players).
- Add MP3 Files: Drag and drop your MP3 files into the Burn List.
- Start Burning: Click "Start Burn" to begin the process.
- Wait for Completion: Once the burn is complete, your CD will contain CDA files, making it playable in most CD players.
I hope this resolves your issue but if you need further assistance feel free to reply.
