Hello! Thank you for reaching out. I am Tin, an independent advisor, and glad to assist you today with this issue. This is a known issue that can occur in Windows 10 and 11 due to system policy restrictions, file permission issues, or simply bugs in the way the lock screen slideshow setting is saved. Below are instructions for fixing the issue where the Lock Screen slideshow resets to None:
Step-by-Step Fixes:
- Check Group Policy (Pro/Enterprise Editions Only)
If you are a person using windows 10/11 Pro or Enterprise:
Press Win + R, type gpedit.msc, then press Enter.
Then navigate to:
mathematica
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Control Panel > Personalization
Double-click on "Prevent enabling lock screen slide show".
Set it to "Disabled" or "not configured"; Next, click Apply and OK.
Reboot your PC.
- Check Registry (For All Editions)
If you are in Home edition or want to check it manually:
Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Personalization
Look for a key named NoLockScreenSlideshow.
If yes, double-click it and change the value to 0.
Or, right-click, and delete the key entirely.
Check here too:
pgsql
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Lock Screen
Make sure SlideshowEnabled is set to 1.
Reboot your PC.
- Ensure Slideshow Folder Has Correct Permissions
Navigate to your slideshow folder (it should generally be under Pictures\Slideshow).
Right-click and click on Properties → Security.
Ensure that SYSTEM and Users have Read & Execute permissions.
Click Advanced, and ensure that "Replace all child object permissions" is not breaking chain.
Re-add the folder back in Settings > Personalization > Lock screen > Slideshow.
- Manually Re-Add Pictures
Navigate to:
Settings > Personalization > Lock screen
Select Slideshow.
Remove all folders currently listed under "Choose albums for your slideshow".
Manually re-add the same folder.
Make sure the images inside the folder are .jpg, .png or supported formats.
- Enable Lock Screen in Registry (if it has been disabled)
In regedit, go to:
mathematica
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background
If OEMBackground does exist, set its value to 1.
- Disable Sync Settings (If Microsoft Account is Overwriting)
Go to:
Settings > Accounts > Sync your settings
Disable Theme sync.
Apply your lock screen setting again.
Please try these steps and let me know how it goes. If you run into any issues, just reply back with the details.
Best regards,
Tin
