I think windows fully support dolby home theater and I bough a speaker that support dolby. But it only works on dolby by connecting hdmi and identify as a monitor. If I choose display only on my real monitor, the speaker isn't on the list of sound output devices.

Hello! Thank you for reaching out. I am Iggy, an independent advisor, and glad to assist you today with this issue. You're absolutely right: Windows ties HDMI audio to active presentation devices. If you "disconnect" an HDMI monitor (even if just an HDMI audio-enabled speaker), Windows won't show its associated audio output activity.

To display only on Monitor 1 and output sound through Monitor 2 (HDMI audio device), follow this workaround:

Solution: Utilize Monitor 1 Alone in View but Extend Display

    Right-click on Desktop→ Display Settings

Now, you will see Monitor 1 and Monitor 2 (HDMI speaker).

    Under Multiple displays, choose:

    • Extend these displays

Click on Monitor 1 display (the main monitor).

    • Set as my primary display
    • Give Monitor 1 1920x1080 (or whatever its native resolution)

For monitor 2, position to the outside upper left corner or so far right.

Select Monitor 2, and set the following:

    • Resolution = lowest possible (or even 800x600)
    • Orientation = Portrait (optional)
    • Drag it out of your way so you don't accidentally move windows to it.

*Set HDMI Audio Output from Monitor 2 (Dolby Speaker)

Right-click the speaker icon in the system tray → Sound Settings.

Under Output choose the corresponding device to Monitor 2 (HDMI Audio / Dolby speaker):

LG TV (NVIDIA High Definition Audio). Depending on your GPU, it could be "Intel Display Audio."

If you're not sure, test the sound from each one until you find the one playing from the Dolby speaker.

Please try these steps and let me know how it goes. If you run into any issues, just reply back with the details.

    Regards,

    Iggy
