Hello Doug
Thank you so much for reaching out, I am Udit an independent advisor, and I am glad to assist you today with this issue.
To get Audacity to record sound, follow these steps:
- Check Audio Settings: Open Audacity. In the top toolbar, you’ll see a dropdown for the microphone (input device) and speakers (output device). Make sure the microphone is set to the correct input device (e.g., your microphone or line-in device).
- Set Up Input Device: Go to Edit > Preferences (or Audacity > Preferences on macOS). Under the Devices tab, ensure the correct input device (e.g., microphone) is selected. Check that the Recording Device is set to your desired microphone.
- Check Sound Settings in Windows: Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar and choose Open Sound settings. Under Input, select the correct microphone or device you want to record from. Ensure the microphone is unmuted and its volume is adjusted.
- Enable Stereo Mix (if needed): Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar and choose Sounds Go to the Recording tab and enable Stereo Mix if it’s not already. This will allow you to record system audio (e.g., from a browser or other applications). Select Stereo Mix as the input device in Audacity.
- Test Recording: Click the Record button in Audacity. If it’s working, you should see the waveform appear in the track window.
- Permissions: Ensure that Audacity has permission to access your microphone. Check in the Privacy settings on Windows.
If these steps don’t solve the issue, try restarting Audacity or reinstalling the program to ensure no corrupt files are causing the problem.
Let me know if this works for Doug!
Regards
Udit
