App compatability on Surface Laptop Snapdragon X Elite

I just got the laptop home and in the course of setting it up I see that the Xbox ultimate game pass I bought doesn't work (only streaming games work). Are there any other programs that won't work on this computer? Is there a list somewhere? I don't plan on using it for gaming much but if there are a lot of programs that won't work I'd like to know now so I can decide if I need to return it.

Thanks in advance.

    Hello slap_shot_12.

Thank you for supporting Microsoft products, and I understand your concerns about application compatibility when using a Surface laptop with Snapdragon X Elite.

Because the Snapdragon X Elite utilizes the ARM architecture, as opposed to the traditional Intel or AMD x86 architecture, some software and games designed for the x86 architecture may experience compatibility issues when running on this device.

Windows can support most x86 applications through emulation (translation), but some applications, especially software that relies on low-level hardware drivers or architecture-specific optimizations, may not run properly or may have limited performance. For those x86 applications that do work, they may also have an increased runtime memory footprint and lose a small portion of their efficiency.

In response to your question about Xbox Game Pass Ultimate only supporting cloud-based games and not allowing local games, some x86-based local game clients may not install and run directly on ARM devices.

Regarding the list of specific program compatibility, Microsoft does not have a complete list of compatible software for ARM Windows devices, but it is recommended that you refer to the following areas:

    • Commonly used office software (e.g. Microsoft Office) and mainstream browsers usually already support ARM or run well through emulation.
    • Large games or specialized design software should check for ARM versions or official compatibility statements.
    • Apps that can be installed directly from the Microsoft Store are more compatible.
    • Visit Frequently asked questions about support for Windows on Arm. | Microsoft Learn for more information.

If you need to run certain programs, it is recommended to check if the software supports ARM or Windows ARM emulation. The Snapdragon X Elite devices are great for light office, multimedia, and cloud services and have long battery life, but may be limited if you need to run a lot of traditional x86 heavy software.

I hope this information helps you make the right choice, and if you have more specific application needs, please let me know and I'll help you further confirm. I hope the above information will help!

    Best regards,
