Unable to buy ms store apps using a gift card

Why can't I buy items in the Microsoft store using a Microsoft gift card, the balance has been entered into my ms account but every time I buy there is no payment via Microsoft gift card, only shows card method.

Recently i redeemed an xbox giftcard to my ms account.

I want to buy swordsoft mousetrack software from ms store but when i click on buy button it only shows the card payment method where i already have a giftcard & it should show there. But it doesn’t appear there. I just need the paid software from ms store.

Note: i am from Bangladesh. So i tried changing the region in both ms account and windows settings to United States but not working.

Windows for home | Windows 11 | Microsoft Store

It was a very bad experience with microsoft, microsoft community, especially him (the advisor). So, an independent advisor also can spread scams or he answered without proper knowledge? I lost my money. And for this, i'll always blame him. I got the info from such a trusted source (ms community) & rushed to buy xbox gift card in a hope of buy software from ms store. At the end, i lost my money with time & i don't want to buy stuffs or games from xbox.

Really shame on this community & the system.

Hi Junayed, thanks for your patience. Xbox gift cards are primarily intended for use within the Xbox ecosystem, including Xbox consoles, Xbox Game Pass, and Xbox-related content. They are not typically applicable for purchasing apps or software from the Microsoft Store on Windows PCs. This means that even if you've redeemed an Xbox gift card to your Microsoft account, it may not be usable for purchasing PC apps like SwordSoft MouseTrack.

To purchase Windows apps, it's recommended to use a Microsoft gift card, which is designed for use across Microsoft's services, including the Microsoft Store on Windows PCs. If you have a Microsoft gift card, ensure that your Microsoft account is set to the correct region and that the gift card is redeemed in the same region to avoid any compatibility issues. Additionally, verify that your payment settings are correctly configured to allow the use of your account balance during checkout.

If you've already redeemed a Microsoft gift card and are still experiencing issues, you might want to check your Microsoft Store purchase settings. Navigate to the Microsoft Store app, click on your profile icon, go to 'App settings,' and ensure that 'Purchase sign-in' is turned on. This setting allows you to make purchases without entering your password each time, which can streamline the checkout process.

Hope it clarify everything, let me know if you have clarification.

    Regards,

    Arlene D.

    Thanks for reaching me out.

Q.1: can I ask if the software you're trying to purchase (SwordSoft MouseTrack) is listed under Xbox or Microsoft Store for Windows (PC)?

Ans: Yes. MS Store: Get SwordSoft Mousetrack from the Microsoft Store https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9PNK50TRZ0QB

    Swordsoft: https://www.swordsoft.idv.tw/mousetrack/

Q.2: could you also confirm whether the gift card you redeemed was an Xbox gift card or a Microsoft gift card?

Ans: i researched and found this (link below) then bought xbox gift card then redeemed through ms store by changing the region to US successfully and i've got the amount (5$) in my ms account order history and payment options.

Q.3: which country/region it was originally meant to be used?

    Ans: United States.

Note: I bought it from a trusted online shop and worked.

    Q.4: Card type?

    Ans: CSV.

Hi there, I'm Arlene, an Independent Advisor and I'd be happy to help you out with this.

To understand this better, can I ask if the software you're trying to purchase (SwordSoft MouseTrack) is listed under Xbox or Microsoft Store for Windows (PC)? And could you also confirm whether the gift card you redeemed was an Xbox gift card or a Microsoft gift card, and in which country/region it was originally meant to be used?

Microsoft gift cards are region-locked—this means if the card was meant for the U.S. region, but your account is set to Bangladesh or your IP location doesn't match the card's region, the balance may not be usable for purchases even though it's redeemed.

Additionally, Xbox gift cards typically apply only to Xbox content and may not work on the Windows/Microsoft Store for PC software. Changing your region manually sometimes isn't enough, especially if payment methods or gift cards are mismatched by currency or store type. Unfortunately, this can limit your ability to purchase certain apps, even if you have a valid balance.

Let me know the card type and where it was purchased or meant for, and we can take it from there!

    Regards,

    Arlene D.
