    Hello Kenneth,

Thank you so much for reaching out, I am Dexter an independent advisor, and I am glad to assist you today with this issue.

Transferring files and applications from your Windows 11 Pro PC to an external SSD can sometimes present challenges. These are the common Issues and their respective solutions:

    1. File System Limitations (FAT32 vs. NTFS)

External drives formatted with FAT32 have a 4GB file size limit, which can cause errors when transferring large files.

Solution: Convert or reformat your external SSD to NTFS:

    Convert without data loss:

Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run:

    convert X: /fs:ntfs

Replace X: with your drive's letter.

    Reformat (data will be erased):

Right-click the drive in File Explorer > Format > Select NTFS > Start.

    1. Slow Transfer Speeds

Transfers can be slow due to antivirus interference, insufficient system resources, or power settings.

    Solutions:

Disable antivirus temporarily: Turn off real-time protection during transfers.

Optimize power settings: Go to Settings > System > Power & battery > Power mode, and select "Best performance."

Use USB 3.0 ports: Ensure you're using USB 3.0 or higher ports for faster speeds.

    1. Access Denied Errors

Lack of permissions can prevent file transfers.

Solution: Take ownership of the folder:

Right-click the folder > Properties > Security > Advanced > Change owner to your account.

    1. Drive Errors or Bad Sectors

Corrupted drives can cause transfer issues.

    Solution: Run CHKDSK to repair:

Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run:

    chkdsk X: /f /r /x

Replace X: with your drive's letter.

    1. Large File Transfers

Transferring large files can be problematic if the drive isn't properly formatted.

Solution: Ensure your drive is formatted as NTFS to handle large files.

Additionally you can check for malware, run a full system scan to rule out malware interference and lastly update drivers, ensure your SSD and USB drivers are up to date.

Should you have more questions, please let me know.

    Best regards,

    Dexter

I see, does this happen for both files and applications?

Thank you for assisting me with my recent issue. The SSD drive I purchased has a capacity of 16TB. I recall being able to transfer files simply by clicking and dragging, but that approach was unsuccessful in this instance. I also attempted the same method with several USB flash drives, but encountered the same result.
