LG TV outputs no sound by HDMI

Hi there;

Initially my LG TV worked perfectly with my desktop (both audio and video output 👍) but later I had to reinstall windows for some reason, but now with the new windows I face sound issues. I updated windows, disabled HyperV from bios, checked windows audio from services.msc (enabled) and searched internet a lot but problem persists. I also reset my TV and checked my HDMI cable (was connected properly) but still no luck... something odd I noticed was there's no record of Sound drivers at present in device manager which used to mention LG TV Audio (or something like that) before.

Hi Randy, my issue has been solved here's a detailed follow up
    So I tried every, everything! to get that audio output back;
1)I tried installing older windows version, no luck

2)I tried hard resets, driver delete and reinstall and even installing generic drivers from motherboard manufacturer. No Luck

3)I searched the internet a lot, and by a lot I mean hours of scrolling forums, and driver pages but still, no luck
    PC Specs:
    Intel H61S motherboard
Windows10 22H2 installed on GPT partition table (not MBR)
Aptio setup utility BIOS (UEFI supported as well as active) by American Megatrends

Till now I had followed all the steps we discussed in order, twice but there was no response. Then I found some random forums which said BIOS settings might sometimes interfere in HDMI outputs, with minimal hopes I checked my BIOS.

I went on the path: BIOS→Chipset→PCH-IO Config→PCH Azalia config
There I found the word HDMI mentioned which was enough for me to understand that this must be enabled, initially it was set to auto, I manually enabled all the parameters and my AUDIO WAS BACK IN NO TIME Image

I am glad that across the internet this (no HDMI audio output to TV) is a very common issue (apparently) but no forum had a mention of Azalia configuration as a solution to this problem specifically.
I'd like to share the screenshot as well for future references as well as other users benefit.
Thanks Randy ! Your efforts helped me.

    Thank you Randy for your efforts;
But I think I should brief thing a little, here are 3 screenshots to make the problem clear
    1) in the leftmost image, I'm trying to Add a legacy hardware from Device Manager but there are way too many options, I tried installing a few but there are errors like "installation failed because function driver was not specified for this device" "The device cannot start" etc.

2)second screenshot is Sound settings from Control panel, initially there was a single entry of "LG TV" with a black monitor icon but now it's empty

3)third image shows no audio drivers existing. Display adapters have Intel(R) HD Graphics listed, but if I go to properties of that driver, then there's something written in the information tab, I believe might help you address the issue.

The Desktop has an i5 2440

    Hey there!

Nice to meet you! I'm Randy, an Independent Advisor. Hi ARJUN, I hear your frustration especially since things used to work perfectly. let me help you out with some troubleshooting steps that might fix the problem.

    1. Check Playback Devices

Even if the TV is detected, it may not be the default audio device.

    Steps:

Right-click the sound icon in the system tray → click “Sounds” or “Open Sound settings”

Click “Playback” tab (or “Manage sound devices” in newer Windows)

Look for something like “LG TV”, “Digital Audio (HDMI)”, or “Intel Display Audio”

If found, right-click → Set as Default Device

If you don't see any HDMI option here, continue below.

    1. Install or Update Graphics Driver

HDMI audio often comes via your GPU, not a separate audio chip.

    Explanation:

If you're using an NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel GPU, the HDMI audio driver comes bundled with the GPU driver.

A clean reinstall of Windows may have removed this.

    Steps:

Go to your GPU manufacturer’s site (e.g., NVIDIA, AMD, Intel)

    Download the latest graphics driver

    Install it → Reboot

    Check Device Manager again under:

Sound, video and game controllers → Look for “Intel Display Audio,” “NVIDIA High Definition Audio,” or “AMD HDMI Audio”

    1. Enable Hidden Devices in Device Manager

You mentioned no LG Audio entry in Device Manager — it might just be hidden.

    Steps:

    Open Device Manager

Click View → choose “Show hidden devices”

Expand “Sound, video and game controllers” again

If you find your TV/audio driver grayed out, right-click → Enable

    1. Manually Reinstall HDMI Audio Driver

If it’s totally missing, try installing manually:

    Steps:

    Press Win + X → Device Manager

Right-click on Sound, video and game controllers → Scan for hardware changes

If nothing shows, click Action → Add legacy hardware → Next

Choose “Sound, video and game controllers” → Next

Look for options like “High Definition Audio Device” or “HDMI Audio”

Hope that this helps you out,

    Best regards,

Windows allows you to choose from several "audio-output" options, e.g., internal speaker (on laptops), back-side audio-output, front-side headphone-output, USB speakers, and HDMI-audio-output.

    What is your current selection?
