Copy, paste and scan on two computers.

I have a Canon TS6420A printer and two computers. One Windows11 computer is USB set up to fully operate with a shortcut to the printer's functions on my desktop.

If I use the same USB cable and printer on another computer, can you tell me how to set up a shortcut on the other computer (Windows 10) so it will operate in the same fashion as indicated above? What I think I want to do is share the same printer and USB cable between two computers.

Thanks,

Jerry

    Hi Jerry,

Thanks for reaching out Microsoft Community Forum. I totally understand you want to shate the same printer and USB cable between two computers. Let me help to guide you to do the process.

Yes, you can use the printer on both computers but only one computer at a time can use via USB. You need to unplug the USB from one computer and plug it into the other when switching

** Step1: Download the Printer Software

    • Go to this link: https://www.usa.canon.com/support
    • Then search for "TS6420A"
    • Download and install the Full Driver & Software Package
    • Choose USB connection during setup

** Step2: Create a Shortcut Like the First PC

    • After installing, click Start menu
    • Search for "Canon IJ Scan Utility"
    • Right-click it then Click Open file location
    • Right-click it again then Click Send to Desktop to create shortcut

Now you'll have the same scan/print shortcut on the second computer!

Note: When make switching easier If you don't want to keep unplugging the USB cable

    • Buy a USB switch box (lets 2 computers share one USB printer)
    • Or set up the printer using Wi-Fi, so both PCs can use it at the same time

I hope this helps and works for you.
