I tried to play a game however my PS5 controller was not working on it. I then followed some steps and one of them was to disable the HID compliant game controller. I did this and ever since my controller won't work and I cannot re-enable the setting even after going into the hidden area on device manager. How do I get my controller to work again as even with a USB and DS4 windows it will not connect

It still doesn't work as the HID compliant game controller is still not letting me enable it. It also keeps disconnecting after 30 seconds however it just show up in Bluetooth as paired and connected then disappears. I have tried removing DS4 windows, reinstalling it and I am also using the normal USB I have always been using since I got the controller. Is there any other way of enabling the HID compliant game controller as I have tried everything?

    Hi again FinC21,

This is definitely getting tricky! When the controller connects briefly and then disconnects after 30 seconds, that's often a sign of either a driver conflict or a power management issue. Let's tackle this with some more targeted troubleshooting:

Try a full USB reset first:

    • Disconnect all USB devices

    • Go to Device Manager > View > Show hidden devices

    • Expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers"

    • Right-click each USB Root Hub and select "Uninstall device" (don't worry, they'll reinstall automatically)

    • Restart your PC

    • This completely refreshes all USB drivers which often solves mysterious connection issues

If your controller still disappears after 30 seconds, it would be helpful to know:

    • Are you using the original cable that came with the PS5 controller?

    • When it briefly connects, does it show up under "Bluetooth & other devices" in Windows Settings?

    • Have you tried completely removing DS4Windows and using just the native Windows drivers?

Let me know how these steps work for you!

I tried to enable the HID compliant game controller however it was not available so I uninstalled and restarted my pc and it does not appear there and has not been reinstalled. Whenever I try to plug in my USB and my controller it comes up however disappears 30 seconds later and disconnects my controller. What should I do now?

    Hi FinC21,

Thanks for reaching out! I understand how frustrating it can be when your controller suddenly stops working, especially after trying to fix it yourself. I’ll do my best to help you get it working again.

Since you've disabled the HID-compliant game controller and now can’t re-enable it, here are a few steps to try:

Show Hidden Devices in Device Manager

Sometimes disabled devices are hidden. Here’s how to re-enable it:

    1. Press Windows + X and choose Device Manager
    2. Click View at the top > select Show hidden devices
    3. Expand Human Interface Devices
    4. Look for HID-compliant game controller
    5. If it's greyed out, right-click it and choose Enable device

    • If “Enable” is not available, choose Uninstall device, then restart your PC — it should reinstall automatically.

    Reinstall DS4Windows & Drivers

Sometimes DS4Windows needs a clean reinstall:

    1. Disconnect your controller
    2. Uninstall DS4Windows completely
    3. Re-download the latest version from the official site
    4. During setup, let it install all required drivers (like ViGEmBus)

If none of this works, let me know what game you're trying to play and whether you're using Steam, Epic Games, etc. Some platforms have their own controller settings that could affect things.

    Additional Tips:

Test Different USB Ports or Cables

    • Make sure the cable supports data, not just charging. Try a different USB port if available.

Hope this helps — feel free to update me with how it goes, and I’ll be happy to assist further!

    Best regards,
