PC Stuck on “working on updates 100% complete”

Hi!

I updated my windows today and it is stuck with Working on updates 100% complete do not turn off your PC. It's like about three hours stuck in loading in that screen and I decided to do restart (couple of times) but still stuck on the same message screen, then I decided to do System restore but after System Restore is finished it says it failed to restore. So when PC restarted again, it is again in the same working on updates 100% complete message screen with the cicular loading indicator.

The weird this is, I noticed that the hard drive led light is still blinking, so I tried to access the shared folders inside my PC and I can access it, my problem now is how will my display escape this Working on updates 100% complete display screen? Is it stuck or do I need to wait for couple of hours for this? Thank you!

    Hi Future,

Thank you for using Microsoft products and making community posts.

I understands the importance of resolving this issue, Don’t worry I will be helping you with this following steps.

    1. Give It More Time

    • Some updates take longer than expected, especially major ones.
    • If the hard drive LED is blinking, Windows might still be processing the update.
    • If it’s been more than 4-5 hours, move on to the next steps.

    2. Perform a Hard Restart

    • Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to force shutdown.
    • Wait a few minutes, then turn the PC back on.
    • If it boots into the same screen, try booting into Safe Mode.

    3. Boot Into Safe Mode

    • Restart your PC and press F8 or Shift + F8 repeatedly before Windows loads.
    • If Safe Mode opens, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and try rolling back the update.

    4. Use Advanced Startup Options

    • Restart your PC three times in a row (force shutdown each time).
    • On the third restart, Windows should enter Advanced Startup Mode.
    • Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Repair.

    5. Uninstall the Problematic Update

    • If you can access Safe Mode or Advanced Startup:
      • Go to Control Panel > Programs > Installed Updates.
      • Find the most recent update and uninstall it.

    7. Perform a System Restore Again

    • If the first attempt failed, try restoring from Advanced Startup Mode.
    • Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > System Restore.

    8. Consider a Clean Install

Please feel free to let me know how it goes.
