Bluetooth headphones keep randomly disconnecting without being displayed as disconnected

Hi there!

I do have a problem with my Bluetooth connection for about 2 years now, which I couldn't find a solution for. So I hope someone can help me here.

When watching videos or listening to music on my laptop, I use a pair of Bluetooth headphones. Sometimes and with no apparent cause, sound will completely stop playing. In the settings menu under 'Bluetooth & devices' the headphones will still be displayed as connected for about 20s despite no sound playing anymore and when I try to manually disconnect them it says 'Couldn't disconnect'. After that they will be displayed as 'Not connected', but reconnecting them again isn't possible either. The only way to get my headphones to play sound again is to restart them completely and reconnect. Then most of the times the same thing will happen again 1-2 minutes later, making it almost impossible to use my headphones. Even after restarting my laptop, the problem still persists.

The problem does occur pretty randomly. On some days everything works fine, on others I need to restart my headphones once or twice, on other days I can't really use them at all.

I did encounter the same problem with another pair of wireless headphones, also my headphones work flawlessly with any other device, which makes me think the problem lies with my laptop. I already tried updating all relevant drivers and using the generic Bluetooth driver.

My laptop is a 4 years old Acer Nitro 5.

Please let me know, if there are any other specifications of my device or system you need. I am also sorry about any language mistakes I made, since English isn't my first language.

Any help is appreciated! Tank you!

Thank you for the detailed information. Let's try reinstalling the drivers from the official Acer website here

Please make sure to restart the computer after the download, and re installation of the drivers.

Hello there! I am Charity, I'm an Independent Advisor. I'm glad to help you today!

May I ask if you are having any issues with Bluetooth before?

    Let's first disable power saving.

    Press Win + X > Device Manager

Expand Bluetooth and right-click your Bluetooth adapter (e.g., Intel Wireless Bluetooth)

Select Properties > Power Management tab

Uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”

May I also ask if the bluetooth disconnects when you are using the microphone?

    Kind Regards,

    Charity

Please note that things might need more than one reply to completely resolve your issue, as it will completely depend on the complexity of the question and the amount of detail that you have provided me.

Hello Charity! Thanks for your reply!

I followed your instructions, but just now the disconnection occurred again.

I can't recall ever having any other issues with Bluetooth on this device before.

The disconnects did happen while I both was and wasn't using my microphone.

    Thanks for your help!
