[Solution found!!] NVIDIA GeForce GT820M driver compatibility issues for Windows 11

Hello, I have an NVIDIA GT820M GPU and I have problems with games like Asphalt Legends Unite crashing or freezing when being ran on the dedicated GPU. The integrated GPU is Intel HD Graphics 4600, and even though I get low framerates when running games in the iGPU, it doesn't crash or freeze. My NVIDIA driver is 23.21.13.9135 and when I launched a game from steam for the first time or after an update, it tells me that my driver is out of date and has some issues. I managed to get the popup back.

The NVIDIA driver installer keeps yapping that it doesn't support my current version of Windows from since I upgraded to Windows 11 from Windows 10, AND even says it doesn't find compatible hardware configuration. Can someone help me bypass the installer's hardware checks or force install it, in the safest way possible, AKA installing the latest driver that actually should be with my NVIDIA GeForce GT820M?

Just checked in here, the answer is to use Snappy Driver Installer Origin, it bypasses NVIDIA's halfbaked useless installer and will properly install the driver with no user input needed, just run it, download indexes, it will see if there's any better drivers for your hardware, even ancient hardware like my GT820M and will properly install it for you.

Still thanks for Jhun for trying to help me.

    Hi Aron,

I hope you are doing well!. I'm Jhun, an independent advisor. Sorry to hear you're running into this issue with your NVIDIA GT 820M on Windows 11. I can imagine how annoying it must be to have games crash on your dedicated GPU while the integrated one works. No worries, I believe this solution will help:

Here’s a step-by-step guide to get your GT 820M working with a stable driver:

    1. Download the latest supported driver for your GT 820M

Go to the official NVIDIA driver search page:

    https://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx

    Enter these options:

    • Product Type: GeForce
    • Product Series: GeForce 800M Series (Notebooks)
    • Product: GeForce GT 820M
    • Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit

the last Windows 10 driver version usually still works fine on Windows 11 when installed manually.

    Download version 471.96 WHQL

    1. Extract the driver package
    • Right-click the downloaded installer and select Extract to "NVIDIA" (you can use 7-Zip if needed)
    • This will create a folder with all the driver files.
    1. Manually install the driver via Device Manager
    • Press Windows + X and open Device Manager
    • Expand Display Adapters
    • Right-click your NVIDIA GeForce GT 820M and select Update driver
    • Choose Browse my computer for drivers
    • Navigate to the folder where you extracted the driver files
    • Follow the prompts to install it manually

Please let me know if this doesn't work, or if you've already tried it, we can try a different method. I’m happy to walk you through it if needed!

    Best Regards.

Hello, I have extracted the driver files from the NVIDIA Driver installer (471.96-desktop-win10-win11-64bit-international-dch-whql.exe) to the folder 471.96-desktop-win10-win11-64bit-international-dch-whql in my downloads, I opened device manager, uninstalled my current NVIDIA GPU device and driver because when I clicked update, tried to choose manually, it just said there's no need to, because the "best" drivers are already installed. So after uninstalling, I clicked on display adapters, add a driver (top middle button), chose the folder 471.96-desktop-win10-win11-64bit-international-dch-whql from my downloads, it installed a bunch of driver files except a few because there wasn't enough space on my disk, I had 30⁓ GB free, the NVIDIA GPU did not show up in device manager or task manager, meaning the installation was unsuccessful. Am I doing something wrong or can we try another way to fix the issue? There is no way a driver takes up like 28 GBs, I had to manually delete the driver files from "C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository".
