Windows Media Player refuses to update album info anymore

I'd like to keep all the info of the music I have on my pc updated, and up until recetly WMP worked perfectly fine for this. I'd add the artist, album and other info directly through the audio file by going to properties, and then when put in the music folder WMP would most of the time immediately update the album cover with the information provided. For more obscure songs (like soundtracks from videogames) I'd just update the info (and album cover) myself and hit save right in WMP and that would all work fine too.

Recently however, when trying to edit ANY information in WMP it just gives me an error message in yellow saying I should "try again later", which of course results in that exact same message when I do try again later. It doesn't matter what info I try to update in WMP itself (artist, year, album cover etc.) anything I try to update gives me the error message.

I've got no idea why this all of a sudden happened or what to do to fix it. Restarting the pc did nothing and neither did adding new folders to the media library (I only use it for music, I use the "films & tv" one for videos). Any help is greatly appreciated.

Here's a screenshot of the error I recieve when trying to update anything. It's in Dutch, but I've translated it in the description of the image. https://imgur.com/a/error-vZY7jC9

    Hi TheMBmulti,

Thank you so much for reaching out. I am Iggy, an independent advisor, and glad to assist you today with this issue.

Apologies If you are experiencing this issue. This is a known issue that many windows media player users have encountered.

Your experience of it suddenly stopping is unfortunately normal, because the shutdown of the metadata service, which means you cannot alter Album info or cover art. You’ll receive errors like “Try again later” when editing in WMP.

What we can do now is to try these steps below.

Option 1: Edit data manually via file explorer

    a. You can still manually edit tags this way:

    b. Right-click the MP3/FLAC/WAV file

    c. Select Properties > Details tab

    d. Edit fields like Title, Album, Artist, Genre, etc.

    e. Click Apply > OK

Note: Some fields may not appear editable if the file is read-only or in use.

Option 2: Use a Modern Tag Editor

These tools let you update album info, cover art, lyrics, and more:

    a. Mp3tag

    b. MusicBrainz Picard

    c. TagScanner

Note: If you have music files with broken or missing album art, you can embed cover images directly using Mp3tag:

    Example:

    1. Open the file in Mp3tag
    2. Drag and drop an image into the album art box

    3 .Click Save

WMP (and other players) will then show that image that selected.

    Hope this helps.

    Reagrds,

    Iggy

    Thanks for the reply.

I've since, per your suggestion, tried out mp3tag and it works like a charm. So I'll be using that to update the most recent songs I've added to properly display their cover art et cetera.

    Thanks again.
