Can someone confirm that the new MOPRIA printing architecture in Windows 11 means scanning is no longer supported on the HP OfficeJet 8020?

Hi All,

I've noticed that my HP OfficeJet Pro 8025 is no longer recognized by the Windows Scanner app that I have been using. Also, the printer shows up as "Offline" in the HP Smart app even though when I send it a job it does print it.

However, I have not been able to get my scanner app to see the printer for the past several weeks/months. In reading online, I discovered that Windows has implemented a new MOPRIA architecture for printing and I found that my HP model is not MOPRIA-certified for scanning (though it is for printing).

So my question is, does anyone know if there's a way to revert to some legacy/compatible way of printing in Windows 11 so that I can get my scanner to work again?

Thanks for any advice/pointers...Rogers

    Hi ,

I understand, it happens. I'm glad I managed to solve it. I'm glad I could help you by checking the printer's Wi-Fi network and finding the problem and solving it.

Thanks for the message Ivan. I am using the printer via WiFi (WPS connected). Are you talking about the HP Smart application? If so, I tried that and got a message saying "Couldn't connect to the scanner". Do you think getting a USB cable and connecting that way would solve this problem? If so, I can try to track one down.

Did you recently install the 24H2 feature update? There are bugs in that release causing widespread scanning problems.

As a work around Microsoft's Windows Scan utility usually works. You can get it here -

    Hi ,

I am Ivan, I will help you with this.

Well, in this case there is nothing wrong, what happens is that if you are using Wi-Fi, the IP is located when it is in dynamic mode and is lost and that is why it appears as offline. The best option would be to use HP Scan are you using the printer via Wi-Fi or USB cable?
