How to install missing security fixes?

A few days ago, I started using my laptop again after about 2 weeks. Up until then, my laptop was working fine. Now, my computer has been running very very slowly.

My first thought was to do a system restore to when I last used it, but all restore points were erased. Don’t ask me how. When that idea failed, I tried to install all the updates that my computer needed. That idea isn’t working properly because, when I go to >Settings and then >Windows Update, there are at least 2 updates which will not install properly and it says in yellow “Your device is missing important security and quality fixes”.

The problem here is that there’s nothing that says what those fixes are or how to install them. Now, not only is my computer running really slowly, but there are some features that are not working properly and some apps keep freezing and crashing and automatically closing themselves.

Does anyone know how I can resolve this issue please? All answers appreciated

Following up on my message last night, I’ve just checked the windows update page and below where it says “Your device is missing important security and quality fixes”, it says “There were some problems installing updates, but we’ll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x8007045d)”.

Also, I’m still attempting to install the updates just in case, but there is one which still will not update properly. I have just noticed that the same one keeps coming up when I check for the updates, which is this one:

    2025-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5060533)

Hopefully this will help with finding a solution.

    > 2025-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5060533)

Can you run Windows Update after July 8? Microsoft will release the "2025-07" update at 10 AM Pacific on that date. That update will supersede the "2025-06" update, and may apply correctly.

However, if your computer is running slowly, that is a different issue. If you have a laptop computer that you sometimes use only with battery power, the processor may be "stuck" at a lower speed, to make the battery last longer. Or, it is possible that the disk-drive is beginning to "fail", and it taking much longer for each input/output operation. Or, does restarting your computer avoid restarting any app that is consuming processor/disk-drive resources, leaving less resources for you to use, slowly.

    Are you still there?

I have just attempted to reset my PC by pressing the shift key while restarting to take me to the reset option, and even that isn’t working.

Can you respond to this message ASAP please.

Hello Ric. Thank you so much for your response.

I’m sorry to say that I have tried all of the above advice and none of it has worked.

    1. The windows update troubleshooter just says it has detected a problem and does not say anything else.
    2. The second link takes me to the windows update page, which I’ve been trying since I resumed use of my computer, but the updates still are not installing properly.
    3. This is very weird. There are no updates which have failed in the update history list. All of them say they have been successfully installed.
    4. I did try to run the system file checker as admin, twice in fact, however it would not finish the check. It stopped after around 14%. Which is also weird, because I’ve also tried to run a full scan using the antivirus software I have installed and even that is automatically aborting itself.

I’ve also tried the link to the repair tool you mentioned at the bottom of your message, but the page it takes me to does not show the "Download tool now" option.

I’m hoping you can still help me with this issue. I’m starting to think I’ll need a windows 10 reinstallation disc. If that’s the case, please let me know how or where I can get one.

    Many Thanks 👍

Hi, I'm Ric, an independent advisor. I'm sorry you're experiencing this issue.

The message “Your device is missing important security and quality fixes” usually means a critical update failed or Windows Update is stuck. Here's what you can do:

    1. Use the Windows Update Troubleshooter. This tool can automatically detect and fix common update problems. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win...
    2. Reset Windows Update Components. Corrupted update files might block installation. Run this tool: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/...
    3. Download updates manually. If specific updates are failing:

Go to Settings > Windows Update > Update History and find the KB number(s) that failed.

Search for the update here https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Home.aspx

Download and install the correct version manually.

    1. Run System File Checker. Corrupt system files may be causing the issue:

    Open Command Prompt as Admin

    Type: sfc /scannow

Wait for it to finish and restart your PC.

If none of the above work, consider a repair install (this keeps your files and apps):

    Click this link https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...

Select "Download tool now" > then "Upgrade this PC now"

Hope this helps, otherwise, I would be happy to assist you further.
