Why is Windows System Files taking up more than 600 Gigabytes of storage

I have a 1 Terabyte SSD card as the primary storage for my PC which hosts my downloads and primary software, and a 4 Terabyte SSD card specifically for games as a secondary storage. I recently ran out of room on my C drive and tried to free up space by deleting unnecessary and temporary files but not matter how much space I freed up it would be full within a day or two. Recently I discovered my System Files taking up a full 674 Gigabytes of space. What could be causing this and how can I fix it so it doesn't quickly refill again?

To get more detail on what is using space you can get TreeSize from the Store or TreeSize Free - Official Download.

Install it and run the app with Administrator privileges then post a screenshot of the result.

Expand and large use folders at the top of the tree details.

Hi, I am Jeronimo, Thanks for reaching out! I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you.

This is unusual and is probably due to some miscarriage, have you recently reset your device? Or have you set recovery options for your device?

If you’ve upgraded Windows or performed system resets, previous installations are stored in Windows.old folders, which can consume substantial space.

System Restore can use a significant amount of disk space to store restore points.
