Screen goes black only in fullscreen with Netflix, Disney+, or Amazon Prime apps

Hi everyone,

I’m having a strange issue on my Windows PC. When I launch streaming apps like Netflix, Disney+, or Amazon Prime Video and switch to fullscreen mode, my screen goes black. However, the audio keeps playing, and everything works fine when I stay in windowed mode.

This problem only happens with these apps and only in fullscreen—other applications and videos run normally in fullscreen.

Has anyone experienced this or found a solution? Could this be related to display drivers, hardware acceleration, or Windows settings?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi Alexandre MAIRIE

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I understand the issue you are facing with your Windows PC when using streaming apps in Fullscreen mode. Since audio continues to play, it’s likely a display or DRM (Digital Rights Management) issue rather than a total app crash.

Here are some fixes that have helped others:

    1. Update your graphics drivers: Outdated or incompatible drivers are a common culprit. Use Device Manager to check for updates, or visit your GPU manufacturer’s website (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel) for the latest version.
    2. Disable hardware acceleration: In the app settings (or browser if you're using web versions), try turning off hardware acceleration. This has resolved similar issues for some users.
    3. Check HDCP compliance: If you're using an HDMI splitter or certain types of monitors, HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) handshakes can fail in fullscreen, causing a black screen. Try removing any splitters or switching cables.
    4. Use the Windows Store apps: If you're using browsers, try switching to the official apps from the Microsoft Store. Some users found that the apps handled fullscreen better than browsers.
    5. Clear app or browser cache: Corrupted cache data can interfere with playback. Clearing it might help restore fullscreen functionality.
    6. Try a different display mode: If you're using multiple monitors or a high refresh rate, try switching to a single display or lowering the refresh rate temporarily.

By following these steps, you may be able to troubleshoot and resolve the black screen issue in Fullscreen mode with streaming apps on your Windows PC.

Let me know if this helps.

    Best Regards,
