    Dao,

Thanks for the follow-up. That’s almost certainly the root of your issue with the Chinese IME not switching to Chinese characters.

Let’s go through the most reliable steps to fix it.

    1. Reinstall the Chinese Language Pack Completely a. Open Settings > Time & Language > Language & region b. Click the 3 dots next to the Chinese language (e.g., 中文(简体) - Simplified
      Chinese) → Remove

      c. Reboot the PC d. Go back to Language & region → Click Add a language e. Re-add Chinese (Simplified, China)
      - Be sure to check the box to install handwriting/IME features

      f. Let it finish downloading fully (may take a few minutes)

    Then test input again.

    1. Reset IME Input Settings a. Go to Settings > Time & Language > Typing > Advanced keyboard settings b. Under “Override for default input method”, choose Use language list
      (recommended)

      c. Now go to Language & Region > Preferred Languages
       - Make sure Chinese is at the top of the list if you primarily want to use it

    Then:

    • Open Notepad
    • Press Win + Space or Ctrl + Shift to switch input method
    • Try typing Chinese characters

    Keep me updated once done.

    Regards,

    Iggy

    Dao,

Thank you so much for reaching out. I am Iggy, an independent advisor, and glad to assist you today with this issue.

Let's check few more ways to fix you issue,

    1. Make Sure You Have the Correct Chinese IME Installed a. Go to Settings > Time & language > Language & region b. Under Preferred languages, click Add a language if needed
      Choose:

         - Chinese (Simplified, China) → installs Microsoft Pinyin

         - Chinese (Traditional, Taiwan) → installs Bopomofo

      c. Make sure it's installed fully (including Language Features like "Basic Typing").
    2. Switch Input Language a. Press Win + Space to cycle through input methods b. Or use Ctrl + Shift to switch keyboards (check if shortcuts are customized in
      Settings)

If switching shows "Chinese (Simplified)" but it's still typing in English, continue below.

    1. Force IME Language Mode via Settings a. Open Settings > Time & language > Typing b. Click Advanced keyboard settings c. Under Override for default input method, make sure it's:
      - Chinese (Simplified) - Microsoft Pinyin

      d. Also check:
      - Use the desktop language bar when it's available → ON

      - Reboot if necessary

    2. Test in Another Account (optional)

Sometimes the IME is broken only for one user.

    a. Create a temporary new local user account

    b. See if the Chinese IME works there. If so, your user profile may be corrupt or

       missing registry entries.

Let me know once done with the troubleshooting so I can assist you further.

    Regards,

    Iggy
