Dell Support Assist not starting

Anonymous

I use Dell Support Assist for two years but recently just wouldn't start. The opening page pops up, saying it is preparing, but never moves.

I tried to un-, and reinstall, also with 'clean installation' but just the same.

Of course, I tried to ask Dell but they only show robot agent, that instructs reinstallation. When I try to reach a human, they say my warranty has expired.

FYI ALL you tech gurus, and folks from Dell, Microsoft and any and all computor oriented organizations need to remember that there are tons of us computer illiterates out here that are at your mercy and resent your scorn because we are not tech savey. Remember YOU were once in our shoes. So you are afraid you'll miss a couple of bucks ? We're willing to pay moderate dues for your assistance. Just don't be obstinate or obnoxious. Would it kill you to assist when Dell Support Assist is NOT RESPONDING as it was designed too ??????????????

    Dear George XY

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft community.

Dell Support Assist relies on the .NET architecture to

Ensure that your system meets the operational requirements

Check the Windows update status to see if your system has the latest patches:

Open Settings → Update and Security → click on “Check for updates” and install all available updates.

Check the completeness of the .NET Framework installation:

SupportAssist relies on the .NET Framework, open Control Panel → Programs → Enable or Disable Windows Features and make sure .NET Framework 4.7 or higher is checked.

Completely uninstall SupportAssist and clean up the residue.

The previous reinstallation may not have been complete and you need to make sure that all relevant files are deleted.

    Steps: Complete Uninstallation

    Press WIN+R and type Control

Open Control Panel → Programs and Features → Find Dell SupportAssist, right-click and select Uninstall.

Also uninstall the following related components:

    SupportAssistAgent

SupportAssist OS Recovery Plugin for DellUpdate

    Dell SupportAssist Remediation

Dell Update Service (only if installed with SupportAssist)

To clean up the residual files

Press Win + R, enter the following path and delete all folders:

    C:\Program Files\Dell\SupportAssist

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell\SupportAssist

    C:\ProgramData\SupportAssist

    C:\ProgramData\Dell\SupportAssist

    Open the Registry Editor (regedit):

Search for the keyword SupportAssist and manually delete the related entries.

Warning: Please make a backup before modifying the registry to avoid deleting key items by mistake.

    Delete Temporary Files

Press Win + R and type %temp% to delete all contents of the directory.

Press Win + R and type temp to delete the same.

Redownload the new version of Dell SupportAssist:

    Hi Nice,

My laptop is Dell Inspiron 15 5510.

I didn’t do ‘clean reinstall’ to the system, only to Support Assist; this is the best advice I could find on their website.

     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOkgM3JUpHM&ab_channel=DellSupport

This doesn’t mean that Dell couldn’t resolve the issue only that they, any human, wouldn’t even consider it.

SA isn’t primarily for the system. It does some clean up and tuning for that but Glary Utilities or Cyberlab Ultimate are much better at this. Why I need SA is to keep up-to-date and tuned up the firmware; for that I can’t find anything else.

I’m asking you because the cause why SA halted working may well be some change in the system.

    Thank you,

    George

    Hello,

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

I know your Dell Support Assist won't open and you've even reinstalled your system.

What is the model number of your Dell computer?

If Dell support can't fix it either, I probably don't have a better solution, but Dell Support Assist isn't necessary for the system, and I'm wondering what you want to do with it?

    Best regards
