Using Miracast: Show computer work not Personalize on TV

My version of Windows 10 does not support Miracast.
Bought pair of HDMI devices: Transmitter & Receiver
Two problems:

  1. For those who've shaded TV cameras, Pedestal & Gain are terrible. Image on TV is all washed out.
  2. Transmitter sends whatever is on Personalize - NOT work I'm doing on computer, such as submitting this request.
  3. I want to project what I'm doing.
  4. Have photos in PDF can share.

Thanks,
OldGrumpyGuy

    Marc,
Many thanks for your suggestions. I'll drop some thoughts in below - if the system will allow that.
    Steve

    Well, that doesn't work. : (

    1. Understood and agree.
    2. I have two Displays, sitting side by side with an amazing numbering system: 1 and 2. : )
I only want to see #1.
Are there different or additional suggestions as a result?
    3. Understood. Being old as dirt, and a techie most of my life, I normally try
most of those IF IT DOESN'T WORK steps automatically. : )
    4. Well, that wasn't clear. IF it would have been helpful for the vendor
or the community, I have a PDF that includes a photo of the input selected
on the Panasonic Plasma a photo of what was on both of my Displays,
and the very POOR results displayed on the TV.

I've returned the pair of dongles and am now shopping around for replacements.

Hello there, Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. This is Marc and I'm happy to help!

Thanks for providing those details. Based on what you've described, here are a few approaches we can try

    1. Washed Out Image / Poor Picture Quality on TV

This is a signal or HDMI processing issue, not specific to Windows:

    > Check TV settings: On many TVs, HDMI inputs have picture mode presets (like "PC," "Game," or "Movie"). Try switching to PC mode or disable "Dynamic Contrast" and "Color Enhancements".

    > Inspect the HDMI dongles: Lower-cost HDMI transmitters sometimes downscale colors or cause pedestal/gain mismatch. If the TV shows overexposed images, check if your transmitter/receiver supports full RGB or YCbCr color settings and try adjusting it.

    1. Only Desktop Background Shows, Not Active Work

This often happens when the HDMI transmitter behaves like a second display instead of a mirrored one.

    > Set Display to "Duplicate"

    • Press Win + P.

    • Choose Duplicate (not Extend).

    • This makes your TV show exactly what you see on your main display, including active windows, not just your wallpaper.

If you still only see the background:

    • Right-click the Desktop → Display settings.

    • Scroll to Multiple displays and manually select "Duplicate these displays."

    • Apply and Confirm.

    1. Want to Project Your Actual Work

Once you set the display to Duplicate, your HDMI setup should mirror what you're doing, such as filling out forms, using apps, or showing presentations.

    If it still doesn’t work:

    • Disconnect and reconnect the transmitter.

    • Test with another app (like Notepad or a browser) to confirm mirroring.

    • Some HDMI transmitters delay or buffer — check for firmware or use a shorter HDMI cable for testing.

    1. You mentioned having photos in PDF format. If your goal is to share these during a projection:

    • Open the PDF using Edge, Adobe Acrobat, or Photos App.

    • Maximize the window and go into Full Screen (F11) for better viewing.

    • If needed, convert PDF pages to images for easier navigation:

    • Use PDF to JPG Converter or similar.

Please let me know if this resolves your issue, and I will be happy to assist further if needed.

    Best regards,
