I’ve done all three of those and they still didn’t work, basically it comes up with that error whenever I try to access the controller
Cannot reconfigure Xbox elite series 2 controller on console
I turned on my elite series two controller (on my Xbox) and for some reason the button bindings had reset to the factory settings, I tried to reconfigure it on the accessories app but it comes up with the error code 0x800708CA

2025-07-03T09:41:28+00:00 Since the Accessories app throws 0x800708CA even after resets and firmware checks, it’s likely a deeper issue with the controller profile storage or sync. Here’s what I’d suggest next:
- Reset the controller to default
Even though it’s reverted already, try manually resetting via the Accessories app on PC if accessible, or try the console again:
> Press the profile button on the controller and hold it until the LED blinks (about 5–10 seconds).
- Try a different Xbox or PC
If possible, connect the controller to a different Xbox console or a Windows 10/11 PC. This can help confirm if the issue is with the controller or the console’s config.
- Remove the controller from your Xbox account (device association)
Go to https://account.microsoft.com/devices. Find your Xbox and controller, remove them, then re-sync and reconnect.
Give these steps a shot and let me know how things go. If you run into any other issues, feel free to share the details, I’d be glad to dig deeper.

2025-07-03T06:22:48+00:00 I’m Stara and I’m here to help you work through the issue you’re experiencing. The error code 0x800708CA often points to issues with syncing or corrupted controller profiles. Let’s try these steps:
- A full power cycle can help. Restart your console.
- Open the Xbox Accessories app, delete the custom profile, then create a new one.
- Ensure both the console and the controller firmware are up to date:

If the issue persists, try reconfiguring the controller on a Windows 10/11 PC with the Xbox Accessories app: https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-ne...
Give these steps a shot and let me know how things go. If you run into any other issues, feel free to share the details, I’d be glad to dig deeper.

2025-07-03T05:28:38+00:00 Hi there, I'm Arlene, an independent advisor, here to help.
Have you tried checking for firmware updates in the Xbox Accessories app and restarting your console? That error code 0x800708CA usually means there’s a problem syncing your controller settings. You can try deleting the current profile in the app, then create a new one. Also, make sure your controller is signed in and up to date.
If that still doesn’t work, a quick soft reset of your Xbox (don’t worry, it won’t delete your games) might help.
Let me know how it goes!
Regards,
Arlene D.
