Hardware error 1b8 and 1a8 at every startup even after clean install

Hello.

I have a brand new computer, fresh Windows 11 Home 24H2 install, and I'm getting the following error at pretty much every startup.

All drivers are up to date (Bios/UEFI, Chipset, NVIDIA...).

No idea what's causing this.

I can see them on the reliability manager.

Sometimes it's 2 errors, sometimes can be 6. But they are always the same and show directly from the start of windows.

I just reinstalled Windows clean.
Before that I tried

  • DDU on Nvidia driver and reinstall
  • check and reinstall all other motherboard drivers
  • update BIOS
  • SFC Scannow
  • Disk check

I thought a clean install would get rid of it but it's still there.

there is no crash, BSOD or anything but this error message drives me crazy and I'd like to know the cause.

2x 16GB Corsair DDR5 Vengence EXPO 6000Mhz CL30

Asrock B650 Steel Legend Wifi

Samsung 990 Pro 2To

Everything is brand new.

Thanks for following up on this.

Unfortunately you can remove the faulty GPU from the list.
I had this issue starting a few month ago with an RTX 3070 that had always been working fine, and the issue remained after changing it for a brand new 5070Ti.
    So the issue isn't there.

RAM is brand new Corsair as well. EXPO profile enabled but that's it.

Just ran a windows memory diagnostic. No issue found.

    I've just ran an SFC /Scannow and a FragmentDISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth as well.
    Both finished without error.

That leaves Motherboard and Power supply. Harder to check I guess since nothing seems off besides thoses errors in the reliability manager.
Power supply is a Corsair RM850x (2024). So Brand new and high quality. I'm guessing unlikely to be faulty ?

Motherboard is brand new too and with good reviews.
I've updated the BIOS but errors are still here.

Sorry for the delay in reply. I've been offline.

    Thanks for the details.

I agree with you. Since there is no consistency in the problem, there is no way to test it this way.

Since the system was recently installed cleanly, I don't think it's a setting issue. So, my suspicions are these.

    • Faulty GPU
    • Power supply issues
    • RAM or motherboard problems
    • Driver incompatibilities

Would it be possible to remove the dedicated GPU and temporarily rely on the iGPU to see if the issue stops occurring?

This is hard to do. As there is some inconsistencies when trying to replicate the issue.

Sometimes when trying to restart the computer, there is no new entry in the reliability manager.

Though It happens often enough to be a concern (see the screenshot below of the errors just today). ![](https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/9c49ed40-cd83-4e33-a009-7cd87b69f4c9?platform=QnA

    Thanks for the clarifications.

Since the iGPU is disabled, it's unlikely to be related to the issue. The problem appears to be isolated to the dedicated GPU.

While I found warnings in the logs regarding SteelSeries and Logitech products, there's no clear evidence that they are contributing to the problem.

    How to Confirm This:

    1. Turn off the computer;
    2. Disconnect all external devices;
    3. Turn the computer back on;
    4. Check if the event was recorded in the Reliability Monitor.

This will help determine whether external devices play any role in the issue.

Let me know the result. Click on the "Reply" button below my reply.

Feel free to ask back any questions.

Do you know if it's related to the dedicated GPU or iGPU ?

I do not hold the power button when I turn it on. Just a simple press.

No crash or BSOD to report when I get the error. Though I used to get BSOD sometimes on startup (happened a few times and thought it was related) but has not happened in a while and not since reinstall.
I do not get an error on screen. Just the error visible when I open the reliability manager.

I do not notice any performance issue. Or if there are any related to that they haven't been significant enough for me to link the two.

Could it be linked to iGPU even though it is disabled ?
Could it be a USB peripheral ?

Is there a way/code from the files shared that could help identify a specific device ?
