Text in the Windows File Explorer is Too Small, Thin, and Faint for My Eyes

Hi,

I struggle to read text in the File Explorer in Windows 11. I can read Settings, but I struggle to read Control Panels. I suspect this will affect other apps too.

The text is normally too small for me to read. I can counter that by increasing text scaling, though it only goes to 225%, and/or increasing overall scaling, and/or reducing screen resolution, and by picking Details view in the File Explorer, which has bigger labels than the other views.

The text is also too faint for me to read. Of the scaling options, only reducing screen resolution does anything to help with this. It makes everything blurry, but at least it makes text bold enough for me to read.

I also tried calibrating Cleartype, calibrating my monitor, etc. At best these offer marginal improvements.

The whole mess gives me a headache every time I try to use Windows.

I think there's a regedit fix to substitute other fonts for Segoe UI. But I'm new to Windows and that seems risky. Are there other ways to substitute user-readable fonts for the default system fonts?

I tried all those, but none were anywhere near enough.

I eventually tried a regedit fix, which failed, Mactype, which didn't help, and then Winaero Tweaker, which did help with the Windows File Explorer, but not with some older ux/ui elements or with 3rd-party applications.

If you want people to avoid registry changes and 3rd-party tools, it'd help to include the necessary accessibility options in the core system and/or Microsoft tools. Being able to read the Windows File Explorer can be pretty important.

    Hello,

Thank you for posting your query in this forum. As per your query you are facing issues with text readability in Windows 11 File Explorer. To resolve the issue, you can try the following steps given below:

    • You can definitely adjust the text size in Windows 11 by going to Settings > Accessibility > Display and then adjusting the "Text size" slider to make the text larger and more readable.
    • However, Windows does not provide a built-in option to change system fonts easily. Modifying system fonts through the registry can be risky and may cause system instability if not done correctly.
    • You can also try enabling High Contrast Mode in Windows 11 by going to Settings > Accessibility > Contrast themes and selecting a high contrast theme that suits your needs.

If the issue still persists then follow the below given link for further assistance.
