Do i need to take the DP-203 exam as it will be retired in march 2025 ?

I'm preparing for DP-203 exam . Since its being retired in march 2025 ,Please advise if I should stop the DP-203 preparation and start preparing for DP-700 ? . Does passing DP-203 a Prerequisite for understanding the contents of DP-700 ?

Dear Microsoft Certification Team,

I am writing to express my concern regarding the retirement of the DP-203: Data Engineering on Microsoft Azure certification. As a DP-203 certified professional, I did not receive any email regarding the retirement of this certification.

Due to this lack of communication, I missed the opportunity to take any required action in a timely manner. Now that DP-203 has been retired, I would like to request permission to take DP-700: Analyzing and Visualizing Data with Microsoft Power BI as a replacement, or be guided on any equivalent certification path.

Please let me know if there is any possibility of accommodation or next steps I can follow to continue my certification journey without interruption.

I look forward to your kind support and guidance.

Actually both DP 203 and DP 700 exams are different exams focusing on different MSFT offerings pertaining to data engineering.

DP 203 focuses on Synapse whereas DP 700 focuses on Fabric both of which tools are used for data engineering.

So in case if your work technology is Synapse, would suggest to proceed with DP 203 irrespective of whether it is getting retired as that would help organizations understand that you are aware of synapse

Is the DP 203 exam going to be replaced by another Azure-focused exam? Or will Fabric be the new focus for Microsoft and Azure Synapse will slowly be phased out?

Based on my knowledge, as of now DP 700 is the only replacement for DP 203 and there is no Azure based exam for the same in near future.

As of now Fabric seems to be more focus on MSFT end but that is a SaaS tool and Synapse/ADF etc is a PaaS.

SaaS and PaaS have their own pros and cons which can be identified accordingly and depending on that you might select the best aspect
