Issue Summary
- Symptoms: Hindi Phonetic Keyboard no longer suggests full words, only partial or incorrect characters.
- Affected Apps: WhatsApp, Chrome, Edge, Notepad, Firefox, Opera, Office 365 — essentially all text input apps.
- Cause: A bug in the July 2025 cumulative update (KB5062553) affecting input method editors (IMEs) for Hindi and other Indic languages
Fix Options
Option 1: Uninstall KB5062553
This has resolved the issue for many users:
- Go to Settings > System > Recovery > Advanced Startup
- Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Uninstall Updates
- Select Uninstall latest quality update
- Reboot your PC
This will remove KB5062553 and restore proper keyboard behavior
Option 2: Use Alternative Input Tools
Until Microsoft releases a fix:
- Use Microsoft Indic Language Input Tool (as you already are)
- Or try Google Input Tools (Online): https://www.google.com/inputtools/try/
Option 3: Report via Feedback Hub
To help Microsoft prioritize a fix:
- Press Win + F to open Feedback Hub
- Search for “Hindi Phonetic Keyboard”
- Upvote existing reports or create a new one describing your issue
