Mobile Notifications Missing for Emails Moved by Inbox Rules ( no folder notifications )

Dear Microsoft Support,

I’m reaching out regarding an issue that significantly affects the mobile experience with Outlook on iOS.

After setting up inbox rules to automatically move incoming emails into folders, I realized that emails moved by rules no longer trigger push notifications on mobile. Notifications only seem to work when messages stay in the main inbox.

This behavior makes it very difficult to use automatic rules effectively — the entire point of organizing emails into folders becomes counterproductive if you stop getting alerts for important messages.

Could you please clarify:

  • Is this a known limitation of Outlook Mobile?
  • Is there a reliable workaround that would allow notifications for messages moved by rules?
  • Are there any plans to support notifications for all incoming mail, regardless of the folder it lands in?

This limitation is making me consider switching to a different email service or app. I would appreciate a clear response or any update on improvements.

Thank you,

Mateus

It's a workaround, but very ugly.

My workaround : a rule for every email I want to put into a folder, with COPY email into the folder, instead of MOVE email to the folder. So i get notified. So you keep deleting the emails on the inbox and marking the copies as read? yup. kind of boring but at least i get all notifications and e-mails are in the right folder (2 main criteria)

Yes, it is a known limitation.

I'm not aware of a workaround, other than not using rules.

It's not on the roadmap; if it is planned, it won't be available any time soon.
