Hello, John. If your camera is only showing part of the screen like a cropped or half-black image it is usually caused by one of these culprits: driver glitches, app-level zoom or crop settings, or even a physical obstruction like a privacy shutter.
Here's how you can troubleshoot it step by step:
- First check if your laptop have a manual shutter that partially blocks the lens. Slide it fully open and inspect the lens for debris or misalightment
- You may test on multiple apps like Zoom, Teams or Gmeet. If the issue only appears on one app, the check that app's video settings for zoom, crop or aspect ratio adjustments.
- You may update or roll back the webcam driver and follow these below
Press Win + X → Device Manager Expand Imaging Devices or Cameras Right-click your webcam → Update driver If the issue started after an update, go to Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver - If the issue persists, you may reinstall the webcam driver
In Device Manager, right-click the webcam > Uninstall device Restart your PC to let Windows reinstall it automatically
