Remote Desktop freezes when on Teams call

Hi,

I use Remote Desktop from a Windows 10 PC to my work PC which also runs Windows 10. This works well, with a stable connection with ~20ms latency. Whenever I start a call in Teams, it becomes very unstable, with the remote desktop frequently completely freezing (no error messages, no attempts to reconnect, just stops responding and the audio immediately cuts out). When this happens, I can still switch between full screen and windowed mode, but I have to close the window and reconnect manually before it will work again.

Running a ping -t from my machine usually shows a small spike in latency (usually somewhere in the region of 80 - 200ms for one or two requests) when the remote desktop freezes, but nothing that I would consider to be a serious issue.

What can I do to troubleshoot / resolve this issue?

Thanks

I have the same issue. I am connected via cable and not wifi. I also use wired headphones.

Teams calls with audio and video work fine.

However, receiving a shared screen from a colleague seems to trigger the bug for me.

I'm having similar issues.  I'm not sure if it's Teams, but it happens less if I am using wired headsets.  Bluetooth seems to creates more lockups along with higher graphic use on RDP.

While I was searching the voice delay issue, I have found this post and since I was also plagued from this issue the past 2.5 day..

Same here. But it is very randomly. It worked well the past 8 weeks.

Last Monday it started to freeze for 1-2 Minutes on all and every notifications from Teams without any exceptions. Only way to be able to work was closing and quitting Teams. When Teams is not running, all works well.

Interesting is, I am currently working on the rds without any issue. But I didn't start Outlook yet.

    Our Env.

    • RDS 2019 with fslogix container policy for office 365 apps (OneDrive, Outlook, Teams)
      • Common issues could be that the Server hosting the VHDs for profile disk or fslogix are not responsive or have a bad write latency

    This is an interesting thought.

I have had a change in circumstance since I gave up on this issue, where the drive in my office computer failed and I was migrated to a VM in our datacentre, which is located a lot closer to me (we VPN into the datacentre to get to our office machines). IT also sent me a new machine to make the connection from home (plain Win10 install, not joined to the domain). The new machine doesn't have wireless, so I have to connect with a cable, via a 100Mb link. With this setup Teams is mostly behaving itself running remotely through the VM. The only issue I have now is sharing my desktop causes a nasty case of flickering.

My thinking at the moment is that the way Teams handles audio and video is simply too fragile for use over a wireless connection?

This could be how Teams hooks into the device video and audio (sorry don't know the exact terms). I am seeing my remote desktop freeze, requiring disconnecting and reconnecting the RDP session, but that is with WebEx and Zoom. So it could be interference between how RDP interacts with the device hardware and how the Meeting program does.
