Teams and shared mailboxes

One of my clients is moving to Microsoft Teams.

They have a large number of shared mailboxes, and are looking for ways to improve the experience for users.

Is there a way that users can use teams to access the shared mailboxes or do they need to use groups through Outlook? Any advice gratefully appreciated.

Thanks

Stormy

    Hi Stormy,

Thanks for posting your concern here. As far as we know, shared mailbox is created to share information between certain amounts of people in Outlook, it cannot login to Office portal, it only can be accessed via Outlook, there is no method to access shared mailbox in Microsoft Teams, you can follow the steps below to access shared mailbox in Outlook.

    For your reference:

Note: You need Full Access permission to shared mailbox.

I also agree your idea to access shared mailbox via Microsoft Teams, therefore, I recommend you post your suggestions in the Teams UserVoice, which is a forum to collect customers’ feedbacks on Teams, many features have been updated based on customers’ demands, your voice will be helpful for us to develop richer products’ features.

Your understanding and time is highly appreciated.

    Best Regards,

    Betty

    Hi Stormy,

To answer your question exactly, would you mind telling me your exact demand? Such as give me a example.

In addition, as far as we know, Teams is used to share instant message, audio and video etc, if you want to cooperate with others, you can choose to add them as Team's member. After a team is created, there is a corresponded Office 365 Group in admin center. That is to say, you can add or remove team's member either in Teams and Office 365 Group.

Add people to a team: Click More options... > Manage Team > Add Members.

Add/Remove people in Office 365 Group : In admin center, select Groups > Groups > the specific group and click Editnext to Members.

    Best Regards,

    Betty

    Hi Stormy,

As far as I know, it is possible to move shared mailboxes to Exchange Online, shared mailbox can be converted to Exchange Online mailbox only if you assign related license for it, then reset its password, for the detailed steps, please follow below:

    1. Contact the admin to login to Admin Center.
    2. Go to Users > Active users > select the shared mailbox.
    3. In Product licenses > Office 365 license, select Exchange Online license.
    4. Reset password.
    5. Login to Outlook Web App(OWA).

In addition, for your description "What about user/ shared mailboxes used by the Response Groups?", may I confirm what it exactly means? If convenient, please offer me an example.

By the way, since we usually focus on dealing with one issue in one thread, which is for the efficiency and forum's order, if you have further concern, I recommend you can post a new thread, we will always here to help you. Thanks for your understanding.

    Best Regards,

    Betty

Thank you. Is there any benefit to setting up an Office 365 group to do this?
