Why is my status always in "Offline" and I cannot change it to Available in Microsoft Teams?

Hi Everyone,

Would appreciate if someone could help me out here:

My Microsoft Teams status is suddenly changed to "Offline" and I am unable to revert it back to "Available" even by clicking my profile and selecting "Available", my status is still in "Offline". I have also tried to type in "/Available" and while it displayed "Your status is being set to available", my status icon is still showing offline. Clicking "Reset status" did not initiate any response too. I am able to send messages to others and they can see but I am unable to see their replies unless I change to another Channel and then back again.

I am currently using the free version and have no Skype configured. Email used to log in to Microsoft Teams is also my personal once since it is a free version.

Anybody could help me with this? thanks!

    Hi, NgChing!

My name is Didi, an Independent Advisor here to work with you on this issue.

Sorry to hear that your status remains offline. Please check for available updates in Teams if there's any. You may also sign out then sign back in. Alternatively, please sign in using the web app at https://teams.microsoft.com/. If none of these works, try to uninstall and reinstall the app.

Let me know if any of my suggestions worked.

    Best regards,

    Didi

    Hi Sanjeev,

One of my users just reported the same. There's an advisory out from Microsoft about this (see below). A recent update to Teams broke it. They are working on it and think it will be fixed for most within 24 hrs. We'll see. Thought I'd let you know since I just stumbled across your comment.

    Have a good day. Cheers

    Thorsten

    Hi Didi,

    Thank you for your reply!

Signing out and back in doesn't work, nor does restarting my laptop and reopening MS Teams. The status thing also is actually kind of on-and-off. It could be "Offline" now but the next hour it will automatically go back to being "Available".

Any explanation as to why this could be happening?

    Hello, NgChing.

It could be related to your Outlook calendar events. You may also try typing, /available in the command bar and see if it will switch again.
