MS Teams - Your microphone is muted

Hi Leo,

I am experiencing exactly the same problem on Windows 10 as Cale and Simon. Please do you have any hint how to fix this issue and keep using Teams fluently? I have a recent observation as I experienced this issue today for the first time with 2 different external USB speakers:

  • I started a call and added another members, I had connected Jabra 410 and checked my local device settings in Device Manager , everything was displaying "working properly". None of the participants heard my voice and Teams was displaying "your microphone is muted" exactly as shown on the screenshot of Cale. I checked everything as listed in this article, but with no success, I had to end the meeting, which was quite embarrassing.
  • Later today I was connecting at my desk to a meeting that was already running. I was using Jabra Evolve 40, once I connected, Teams was displaying again "your microphone is muted" and nobody heard me. After checking the system settings (again device manager) I plugged this headset in and out, which finally helped and I could participate in this meeting.
  • In the meanwhile I reinstalled completely my Microsoft High Definition Audio Device from the device manager (audio inputs and outputs) even though it already had the latest driver version (10.0.15063.502). Actually I'm not sure whether this was or was not correct step and whether I could update reinstall anything more.
  • Then I performed another testing call with my colleague using again the Jabra 410 external meeting speakerphone (not headphones). The problem was the same. When i ended the call and launched again, the problem disappeared (he could hear me with no issues) bu the message in Teams was still displaying "your microphone is muted".
  • Last test I performed again today with my Jabra Elite 40 headphones again and the behavior this time was the same. Microphone muted message, but no issues, he could hear me well.
  • My current Microsoft Teams version is 1.1.00.1155

Please, my big wish, do you have any other idea what could I test and how? Is there any information that is missing from me? Do you have any hint whare could be the problem? I'm quite sad that for now it seems to be working very randomly, I'd be so happy if we could fix it. Thanks so much in advance,

Klara

    Hi

My IT support fixed it for me, here's how:

    1. Go to Control Panel, display small icons then click on Sound
    2. Got to the Recording tab
    3. Right click on your microphone then click "Set as default communication device"
    4. Then right click again, click Properties then go to the Levels tab.
    5. Check the level and that the microphone icon at the right is not disabled. If so, toggle it.
    6. Quit then reopen MS Teams

    Kind regards

    Vincent

    Hi Pavelkova,

I found that Teams meeting is powered by SFB, so that have you ever check the Audio Device settings in Skype for business?

    1. In the SFB main window click Options, and select Tools > Audio Device Settings
    2. Under Audio device, choose the device you want
    3. To test your mic volume, speak for a few seconds. The volume is optimal when the progress bar reaches the middle of the test area. Drag the slider next to Microphone to adjust the mic volume.

For more detailed information, here is an article for your reference:

In addition, to narrow down this issue, I suggest you try to use another PC to check if the issue persists.

    Thanks.

    Hi Huni,

thank you for your swift reply, much appreciated. I performed the steps that you recommended. Here are the results:

    • Misrosoft Teams Web App - when I tried to perform a call, it gives me this result, so no, this is not a option:
    • I tested With another kind of Logitech Headset 210, the message "your microphone is muted" still persists
    • of course every time i check my correct settings as well in Teams, that's the basic stuff. Every time I check whether i have my mic configured correctly and unmuted.
    • Doesn't matter whether I mute myself or not, the message is still present.
    • The issue persists but in Teams Meeting

If you have any other advice, I'd appreciate a lot.

    Thank you very much,

    Klara

    Hi Pavelkova,

To check if it is related to your Microsoft Teams client, you can sign into Microsoft Teams Web App and see if this issue persists.

In addition, from my perspective, the issue may be related to the compatibility of your audio equipment,  I suggest you try to follow the steps bellow and let me know the results:

    • Please use another brand of speakers to check if the issue persists
    • Check if you have configured you mic correctly by clicking the show choose device pane as the following screenshot shown:

    • Check if the issue persists with all contacts in all type of audio interaction (Meeting and call) in Teams?

    Thanks,

    Huni
