Status Message in Teams does not show to users unless they logout of Teams and log in again

When setting a Status Message in Teams and selecting the "Show when people message me" option, users still do not see the Status message unless they sign out of Teams and sign in again. This is totally impractical as you can't ask a whole company to sign out and sign in again everytime you want to display a new Status Message.

Its always been this way since we've been using Teams and yet I can't find any reports on Microsoft sites detailing this problem.

It would be really nice if this feature worked as designed.

Users are on the latest version of Teams Desktop.

Any ideas?

thanks

    Hi Alanppa,

From my tests in the lab, the triggers of status message is to @ this person or open a new chat window with this person. Based on this behavior, you can try to switch the chat window to someone else and switch back to check if the status message updates. Meanwhile, you can try to @ this person to check if the status message appears.

Besides, the presence will be synced back to the local presence host server (<area>.presence.teams.microsoft.com) when you change/update the status message. Please make sure the HTTP traffics between your PC and the server are not blocked by firewalls, antivirus softwares, Windows Defenders or the other apps.

On the other front, due to Covid-19, people have to work from home, which subsequently causes Teams users increasing sharply. Based on the local epidemic, the presence service could be affected by varying degrees. And it could appear sync delay because of the server overload.

    Regards,

    Marvin

    thanks Marvin for your reply.

There is nothing blocked via https traffic that I can see and because the status does update when the other users log out and log in again, then i think that eliminates that possibility. I have tried switching to another chat window and back, even tried it 30 minutes later and still the other person does not see my Status message. The only way we can get them to see it is if they log out of Teams and log back in again, which really isnt practical. I totally understand that this issue may be caused by overloaded Teams Servers due to increased usage at this covid 19 time, we simply never had the requirement to use status messages prior to the last few weeks, so I can't be sure if thats the reason.

I will try using the @ option but even if that works, we can't ask every user to @ someone just to see if they have a Status message updated.

    kind regards

    Alan
