Hello Andrew,
I believe the problem is not with the device or the Mackie drivers.
I checked the Mackie website initially and saw a FAQ page stating that the ProFX boards do not need drivers installed. "All you do is set it as your input and output device ...Control Panel>Sound."

I did review the page you linked, and the instructions indicate that the drivers downloadable there are for Windows 10. This computer is running Windows 7, having been upgraded from XP.

I believe there is a problem with the functioning of the PC,; a driver, a card, or something that has been corrupted other than the analog/digital device. This is the third analog/digital audio interface to malfunction with this PC recently.
I have used a BassPodxtPro interface successfully with this same PC for quite some time with moderate usage that stopped working properly recently. There appeared to be driver issues, so I re-installed the latest drivers. The sound coming through was very choppy, as if there is a driver type of problem, a usb connection problem, or a device problem.
After troubleshooting I bought a Focusrite Scarlett 4i4, which also would not work properly with this PC after its drivers were installed. After some driver installation challenges, there have been no indications of the 4i4 having driver issues or other software or connectivity problems that are discernible by looking in Device Manager and navigating around in that way. However the Focusrite, when connected and operating with audio editing software sounds as if its drivers are not working properly, or there is a similar problem of that kind. Just like the first device.
The Focusrite does not plug into a power source other than the usb connection. It powers up, but it sounds like the first interface that stopped working with choppy distorted sounds.
Purchasing the Mackie ProFX was partly a test to see if a device not reliant on usb power, like the first device to malfunction, would work.
I bought The Mackie ProFX device partly from being sold on the idea that it would work with Windows 7, would not rely on usb bus power as it plugs into a power source, and would not tax the PC's resources.
I've run a free version of Malwarebytes for some time. It has always indicated no problems detected. Even when the browser address bar and word documents would autopopulate back slashes \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
The question that remains for me is, what more can be done to make sure all drivers and driver related factors on the PC are in place, functioning properly, have not been corrupted.
Thank you
