Hi there,

On the MS Teams, we see the following messages

  • In a meeting
  • In a call

Q. What is the difference between both of them?

Regards,

Chandra

lol  I have the same question. Their links are not helpful at all!  So far I am not a fan of teams. Would prefer Slack.

    Hi all,

Looking at the replies, I think it is "Case 2", that everyone (including myself) are struggling to understand.

    • Perhaps it would be clear to all if someone could respond as bellow.
    1. Has a scheduled call at that time + NOT in that call - In meeting
    2. Has a scheduled call at that time + IS in that call - In meeting ??? / In call???
    3. Does not have a scheduled call + IS in a call - In call
    4. Does not have a scheduled call + NOT in a call - Available or Whatever the default is set to...

    Hi Arya,

    Thanks for the links.

But my query was, we get to see these status on the MS Teams.

What is the meaning of each of these status?

    Example - 'In a meeting' -

Does that mean the person is participating in a meeting? OR

This person is organizing a meeting?

    'In a Call'

Does that mean, the person is participating in a call. (That was scheduled by someone else)

These are the things, I wanted to understand please

    Regards,

    Chadra

I think "In a call" means you are in a call with one person only. A meeting would comprise of three or more people.

For example, I set up a call with myself, it would show "In a Call", whereas with more than 3 persons, it shows "In a Meeting"

I am now at a meeting with 200+ people and my status shows as "In a Call!"

I still find this confusing. I had thought that "In a call" means the person is on the phone and "In a meeting" means the person has a meeting in their calendar but not joined any phone call. However this is not always true.

I frequently look up my colleagues status, it says "In a meeting" so I try calling them and they decline and reply saying they are on a conference call. When I then speak to them after they tell me yes they were dialled into that Teams meeting on the phone so couldn't speak. But their status only said "In a meeting"!!!

Microsoft please help as knowing when someone is not on the phone is important. Most people have conf calls that finish early or have time booked out in their calendar but still free to talk.
