Classroom Teams vs OneNote for creating Assignments

What is the difference and pros/cons of creating assignments with Teams vs OneNote?

Apparently one can create an assignment using Teams which is described here: link

and with OneNote which is described here: link

I am wondering if the assignment creation must be done in OneNote to have the LMS link to work,

or does it have to be created in Teams to have the due date show up on a student's Outlook calendar?

I would like to know which of these two techniques I should be using to create an assignment.

    Hi JP,

Based on our test, the calendar in Outlook won't display the due date of the assignment. Students can see the assignment in Teams > assignment.

If you want to see the due date and times in Outlook calendar, we suggest you use Microsoft Classroom.

Here is an article for your reference: Calendar in Classroom.

    Hi JP,

There is no big differences between two methods. The different between creating assignment in class notebook and Teams is that in class notebook, you can connect to LMS and SIS so that you can mapping your notebooks to your LMS or SIS course. While in Teams, you can chat with your students, upload the files to class.

In a word, the platform is different between OneNote and Teams. It based on the requirement you want. You can try both and find out which one is appropriate for you.

    Regards,

    Tisky

I had thought that Microsoft Classroom was deprecated and has been replaced with Microsoft Teams. (https://blog.salamandersoft.co.uk/index.php/2017/05/microsoft-classroom-to-be-replaced-by-microsoft-teams-in-office-365-for-education/

I believe this page contains the current Microsoft for Education documentation: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Create-an-assignment-in-LMS-and-your-Class-Notebook-adee28bf-5f62-4fc1-9ea8-908ac0e95899

It describes two ways to create Assignments:

    1. Using Microsoft Teams
    2. Using Class Notebook (which I believe is different from Microsoft Classroom)

I don't know how to decide on which way to create an assignment.

I don't know the effects of these two ways to decide which one works best for me.

I think the Class Notebook technique might add the assignment to the connected LMS.

I think one of these techniques might add the assignment to a student's outlook calendar.

I'm not sure of the pros/cons of these two assignment creation techniques.

    Hi Tisky,

Is it the case that if an assignment is created with Teams then the due date will show up on the student's outlook calendar, but if the assignment is created with OneNote, then the assignment does not show up on the student's outlook calendar?

Thank you for the prior quick response!

    JP
